The Little Things
Today was a good day. After work I decided to sit down with Jodi, and Beth. Beth just moved back and I had yet to see her, so I sat down. We started playing blackjack, but we just felt like nerds playing a card game in a bar. So we drank beer. Much better! After an hour or two or Go Fish and blackjack and drinking a few brews I decided to chow on a munchy sandwhich! I only ate half, seriously, how can anyone finish a 12oz piece of chicken?
Just a few bites into my scrumdilicous meal, this guy starts walking towards us. Oh. My. Gah. It’s MIKE!!!!!!!!!!!! Mike has returned to us, and I couldn’t be happier. He looked tried, but happy. I could never take that trip alone, nevermind three times. He wasn’t happy there. He thought he wasn’t happy here, but uponing returning to New York, he realized that the people who love him, are here.
I understand what it’s like. I didn’t stop hating this place until I was here for two years. I missed my home, and my friends, and all the familiarity that my life had held. I was naive about the world, even from growing up in a big city. I have learned so much more by traveling here, and meeting the people I have. I still miss my friends, and I still love them. But I’m happy with where I am. Now I have even more friends, to add to the people who have touched my life. It’s hard to believe that you can meet and be touched by so many different people.
Cari, you would love Jodi! She’s completely New York Italian "break your thumbs" awesome! Joella you would dig her too. Actually I think that 98% of you would freaking love her.
Jodi is just one of those people who touch your life and change who you are, you grow from knowing her. Sheena, Mike, Tracy, Nicole, Amelia, Monigue, Jessica, Steph, each person you meet has a chain reaction on who you are meant to become. Life might be pre-destined, but much like one of those online adventure games, each choice you make, can and will ultimately change your destination. But if life was already pre-destined then are the people you meet, already positioned in your path? Would it matter what road you took, to end up at the same place? Or do you think that the choices we make, the things we learn, the people we meet, can alter and effect our road? Does the story change as the pages are written, or has the book already been published? Each person touches us in small way, even if insignifigant at the time, is still a part of what we are, and who we become.
After a nice time of catching up Jodi and I co-sitted another server’s 2 year old while she waited for her roomie to come pick him up. He’s a true sweetheart, and we got him a special treat of vanilla ice cream for being good. Washed down with juice not soda TYVM. He even called me mommy, which was so sweet, and broke my heart at the same time. Maybe it was a sign of good things. Normally I would chalk it up to kids being kids, but this guy KNOWS who his mom is. He’s two, and looking at a picture of his mom, dad, him, and half brother and sister. He points to it and says daddy, mommy, me, (sisters name), (brother’s name). And picked each one out correctly. He didn’t call anyone else mommy, and it was so sweet.
Kid’s are sometimes unbearably sweet like that. Rah Rah Vanilla Ice Cream and Juice 😀
Warning Comment
When a child calls you mommy it is a high compliment. A mommy is a special person capable of much good and not everyone deserves that name.
