A Tornadoes Fury
I didnt have alot of time to update yesterday morning since the cable had just came back on 10 minutes before I had to leave for work. Lots of damage. Let me see:
Huge trees blocked roads and power lines dangled over highways across south Clarksville as powerful storms moved through the area Tuesday evening.
Kent Wall, who lives on East Old Ashland City Road, had been home all day working in the house he inherited following his father’s death in July.
This was my house. We’d been trying to get the place together to do a Thanksgiving meal," he said. "I had been listening to the radio."
Wall said he didn’t hear the tornado warning issued for Montgomery County, but heard warnings for surrounding counties and took shelter in the basement.
"I got up and went to the bathroom, and when I came back, the whole top of the house was gone," he said.
Most of Wall’s roof came off and landed on the two vehicles parked in the driveway — and an old tree in the front yard had been uprooted. A nearby mobile home was surrounded by debris.
Trees and debris blocked the roadways all over Sango, and power was out in most neighborhoods.
Adam Alexander left his home during the height of the storm to check on neighbors whose barn had caught fire. When he confirmed they were safe, he noticed there were five trees blocking Highway 76.
"It happened pretty quickly," he said. "We tried to pull a few trees out of the way to let the emergency vehicles through."
When he and other emergency workers couldn’t remove the trees, a police officer manned Highway 76 and Little Hope Road while Alexander changed into dry clothes and returned with a parka and flashlight.
He spent the rest of his evening waving down drivers headed straight for the downed trees.
Yeah that barn that was on fire, was the church we thought had got on fire. A police officer got injured directing traffic, crazy shit.
And the photos I took:
This was the sign at the end of our road. In the middle of the street.
Chris moving it.
A downed tree on our road
Tabacco shed missing its door, and about 10 rungs of tobacco
This was blocking a road
Bent by something…steel pole
This sign was twisted around, the arrow is pointing the wrong way
The smashed limo
The insert for that sign
The other side of the limo
The gas pump cover, all the shell stations we saw were completely distroyed. Lighting on the ground, roof blown off, cars ruined. I didnt get pictures though
This WAS the Holiday Inn, the roof was completely taken off, they closed it down and blocked it off, so this is the best shot I got driving by. Look at the right hand corner, that missing chunk, it goes all the way around the back of the hotel.
DAMN…that’s some scarrrry shit. We don’t have any of the wind storms here…but I’d rather have a tornado cuz you know its coming than all these bullshit earthquakes…yikes
