New Years Resolution
This year already has some big changes and a new life stage in store for me. I can’t believe 2009 is already here. So let me start off by wishing all of you a Happy New Year!
So most of my goals are January focused and the rest are life long goals that well for the most part has been started prior to 2009 but will definately take on a whole new role this year.
Goals to be met this month
1. When Jen says she’s in labor, or her water breaks, don’t panic. She needs to be in the car with me too.
2. If she happens to be at work (Lord willing not the case) or I am at work, make sure we have a ride back-up plan.
3. Make sure her suit case is packed and ready to go.
4. Breathe
5. Help Jen get checked in and up to Labor and Delivery.
6. Stand at Jen’s side in the delivery room.
7. Encourage her, coach her to breathe
8. Breathe
9. Don’t pass out
10. Remember when Jen stands up in the stirrups, keep my lower lip from her reach.
11. Breathe.
12. Do as the Doula instructs
13. Make sure the chair is behind me just in case
14. Breathe
15. Ask doula if there is a paper sack
16. Hear doctor exclaim "It’s a girl!"
17. Cut the baby free.
18. Cry with joy
19. Hug Jen, telling her she did great!
20. Hold Baby
21. watch with amazement as the new mom holds and feeds the new bundle of Joy.
Long Term Resolutions
1. Be a good Father
2. Be a good role model
3. Be there for the baby.
4. Be supporting and encouraging
5. Love the Mom and child
As i mentioned many of these long term resolutions have been on going. I remember about 9 years ago thinking that I needed to start getting ready for the eventual day of being a husband and father. I believed that everything I do, learn, etc have played an important role in shaping who I am today and how I will be as a husband and father. It has been said that the best decisions, the best indicators on how you are going to be as a father are the decisions and actions you do before the child is born.
I haven’t always made the best decisions. I am not perfect. Nor will I ever. I don’t think I have learned all I needed to to be a good Father. But i have had a great example in my own father. I also rely on the strength and character of the Heavenly Father. Am I ready for this? Can I handle this new role I am now entering? I answer these questions with a resounding YES! Here on out the rest is on the job training.
My dad is a great father. I will continue to build on the Foundation that has been laid. There is only one man that can be a better Father and that is me.
