airplanes flew over our heads and we watched them through the trees on that abstract saturday as we walked the cracks of misplaced stones amongst patches of dry grass and golden leaves, our bare feet and faces dusty brown from scavenging in the endless forest. i think sunlight held the insatiable urgency of that unfading, detached, afternoon, and the whole world was silent as we made our own scene in the vacant air. i was suddenly aware of the moment we posessed when you spun me around and pulled me in. my hair flew in my face and you kissed me barely, our lips moving in from indescribably syncopated emotion, then slowly we fell into something more, our eyes closed tight against the wind of the jets as they grazed the lower atmosphere.

sometimes i think if i look, i can still find you amongst those trees and we’ll reenact the day we broke through the canopy and shared the sky.
