a few things

I can’t really remember what I worried about with Cooper when he was little– other then EVERYTHING.  I can however remember some of the little worries that I had about Avery in the first weeks/month.

Her belly button.

It wasn’t a clean fall off like Cooper’s.  Cooper’s fell off at my parents place while I was changing his diaper, he was 10 days old.

Avery’s was longer, and got caught on her clothes.. Part of the base of the umbilical cord was always kind of loose and not attached. It was kinda weepy too.  One night I picked Avery up to change her, and the cord stuck to me (EW!) and detached. And then it ooooozed, and it was yucky and yellow and really worried me.  I called Julie, my sister-in-law that night and worried and fretted to her and she was quite helpful telling me that her one daughters belly button oozed and bled for MONTHS. Ew.

I couldn’t help but worry, but I couldn’t pack her up and take her to emerg– so I called wonderful Telehealth Ontario.  They told me how to clean it, and that it was pretty much, fine. Phew.  Today, it IS fine.  I thought for sure she was going to have a gross, outtie.. It’s an innie and beautiful. 🙂 Bikinis all the way.

Poop.

For weeks, Avery wasn’t an every day pooper. There was a couple of times where she didn’t go for 5 days– worried me alot. I didn’t want to have to give a 6 week old an enema! And, oh the gas that comes out of a baby when they haven’t pooped– I almost passed out! She barely slept because obviously she was in pain. It was pretty awful all around.  Gas drops stink though– WHY would you make them smell like black licorice? Really?

Slowly she started making a pooping routine for herself, she went from every 3-4 days to every other day and now she is every day, sometimes 3-4 times a day (UP HER BACK!) but in the beginning I worried about it, for sure.

Baby Acne

Yes, Cooper had it. Mild though. I could barely notice it really. Avery had it BAD. All over her face, and back and chest. At first I laughed with the doctor– "Oh, she is only going to get it on her back, hahaha" then two days later, the child was covered. Of course, the doctor assured me 2 days before that it would go away on it’s own but I still worried– why would my poor baby have to be all disfigured when she JUST GOT HERE, and Thanksgiving was only a week away, my baby should be perfect for everyone to meet her! Haha.

She was, I used Aveeno cream on her, and she turned around quickly.  It may have cleared up on it’s own, but I had one less thing to worry about this way. 🙂

She still battles dry skin- we limit her baths (or we did, lately the puke machine has needed one daily) moisturize daily, and things are better. Spectro Eczema cream is good for those pesky spots.

Puke.

Oh wait, spit up. Sorry, Mom.  Cooper never spit up, ever (well there was this once when he was on antibiotics).  So, to have a pukey baby was unexpected– but we deal with it.

I do (or did) worry about over feeding, milk allergies, food sensitivities, etc, etc. Of course, there must be SOMETHING right? Nah, it’s just her. She is a bit of glutton, or doesn’t wait to get rid of a burp, or just likes to make a mess.

Hand in Hand with the puke is..

GAS.

We battled this. It kept her up at night, she tooted all night, she burped alot– obviously not enough.  What was I eating that she didn’t like? Slowly I removed things and tested them– I wasn’t eating gassy foods– cucumber, broccoli, cauliflower– but *something* was bugging her.  I found out that she really doesn’t like me eating garlic– If garlic was in my supper, I would have a rough night with her (this is STILL the case), she didn’t like onions really either, but I couldn’t cut both out so I started with small amounts and she seems to tolerate them fine now.

I can’t stand bland food!

Those are just some of me neurosis’ that I dealt with in the beginning.
