Birthday Celebrations and Pledges Fulfilled

On Thursday, I officially turned 26. I know OD has been telling you that I’ve been 26 since the start of the year, but it’s been lying to you. I have mostly been 25 (already 25 seems like such a long time ago).

I was a little nervous about my birthday, since everyone I know has a Proper Job, and so I was going to be alone until 3pm when my sister finished work. I felt like it was going to be kinda depressing. Actually, it was wonderful. I totally pampered myself. I breakfasted on croissants and fine coffee on my deck. Had a very long shower in which I used lovely body wash and shampooed my hair and shaved my legs. I put an intensive conditioning treatment through my hair and spent a long time massaging some increbily beautiful smelling body lotion into my body, then got dressed into my most beautiful skirt and favourite white shirt. I checked my email messages to find a bunch of lovely birthday messages from friends and family, and opened the cards that my relatives had sent me.

Then something happened, but I’m going to save that story for the end of the entry.

After the Something, I headed off to the beach for a while. It was the most incredibly beautiful day, all bright and sunny and sparkling. I spent a long time sitting on the hot sand smiling. After a while I went for a bit of a paddle in the water, which was blissfully warm.

By this time my sister had finished work, so I went to meet her, got presents, drank coffee, went shopping… it was all good. And for dinner my father took us out to dinner on the waterfront, followed by a massive gateau and *fireworks*! Yep, that’s the good thing about being born the day after Guy Fawkes Day. Spectacular birthday celebrations.

Now, the something. Athena called to wish me a happy birthday! Which was sweet and lovely all in itself. We chatted for a few minutes, and then I said (for my phone was being terribly terribly crackly), “Oh this phone is being so annoying!” which she took to be a hint to get off the line – which it so wasn’t! So we said goodbye and hung up and then I screamed for about ten minutes. I couldn’t believe that I’d passed up such a perfect opportunity to ask her out!! After I finished screaming, a clever idea struck me. I should call her back. Which I did. It took me about 10 attempts to actually dial all the numbers, and when I finally did it was actually entirely by accident (my finger, hovering above the final digit, was shaking so much it actually pressed the damned button). But the phone was ringing, so there was no backing out. She answered, and I said, “Hey, yeah, me again. I was just wondering if you felt like going out with me sometime to get coffee or something”, to which she replied, “yeah, definitely!” which made me smile.

So tomorrow I have a date. Oh my god. When it was still in the hypothetical future I was all glowy and excited. But now it’s tomorrow and I’m plain terrified.
