Sunday morning grade check
So, I was super stressed last week because I had three midterms. The first two were on Tuesday for Classical Sociological Theory and then Contemporary Sociological Theory. The first theory class is required for a socy major and now that I’m in it, I have no idea why I’m taking contemporary theory. The first test was over postmodern theories that make absolutely no sense. So, since I understood fuck all for that test, I studied extra hard. Turns out, my classical theory test was harder than the contemporary one . WHY? Under pressure I could not for the life of me think of how else Marx’s theory applies today other than to the growing wage gap between rich and poor. Actually, now I see why that’s an issue. Since everything stems from economic inequality for Marx, it seems like all other issues today are consequences of that inequality. See? There is only ONE overarching issue, not THREE. I should get extra credit just for making that dumb argument in my head.
The third test was for Intro to Geology. Since joining the Arts & Sciences portion of the university I am now responsible for science core credits. Blah. So I took sequential biology over the summer and am taking geology and geo lab this semester. The only problem is that this geo course is also part of a sequence and I’m in the second part…without ever having taken the first. You’re supposed to be able to do it without the first, but tell that to the professor. The last time I took a geology class was in 8th grade. Needless to say, I feel exceptionally lost and stupid in that class.
Nonetheless, my grade online is showing up as a 100% on the geo midterm. What? Well, that’s a relief.
Then I decided to check to see if my grade was up for the contemporary theory class. 82%. Holy shit that is so much better than the 50% I assumed I was getting.
That’s two good grades out of three! I won’t know my classical theory grade until Tuesday probably, but now I guess I’ll be okay if I get a C on that test.
I’m more worried about grades lately because I’d like to be able to get into the postbac teacher licensure/masters program at UNC. I need to talk to my adviser about that soon…
RYN: Yes, definitely I find writing online for an audience leads to a different sort of self-understanding. I find both writing for an audience and writing a private diary helpful in different ways. Congrats on your grades!

Wasn’t it Meat Loaf who sang “Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad”? You’ll do great on your third too, I’m sure.
