Photo Entry

It has been an awesome and eventful 24 hours. Last night after I got off work, Zac and I went to downtown Provo to have dinner at our favorite sandwich shop, Station 22. Zac just bought a new film camera (a Hasselblad!) and wanted to play with it so we walked around afterward and I played with his digital.

There was a surprising amount of subject matter in that one little area. While walking around we noticed a sign for a free performance of Hamlet on top of a parking garage. Weird, right? But we couldn’t resist the urge to check it out. After we’d finished taking all the pictures we cared to, we walked up to see what it was all about. I really expected to just watch for a few minutes and head back home but the players were SO GOOD. It was seriously the best version of Hamlet I’ve ever seen. They did it Elizabethan style where there was very little in the way of props or stage decoration and the audience was expected to participate. They also made for some excellent photos. I took a few then Zac took over the camera. The best ones are his but that’s to be expected. 🙂 I’m such a newb.

Opening entertainment. She did a really good version of Bieber’s "Baby, Baby". Yeah, I know, right? How can there be a GOOD version of that? But something about her voice and the acoustic made it sound really good.

Some of the players juggled while we were waiting for show time. They had a juggling competition of sorts.

Horatio and Hamlet. The guy that played Hamlet was nothing short of amazing. I seriously would not be surprised if it made it big.

Ophelia and Polonius. The guy that played Polonius was hysterical.

Look how tired and vulnerable that expression is? This is a FREE SHOW! Did not expect this level of professionalism and talent.

The King, Polonius and the Queen – I love the cheesiness of the costumes. It’s so cheap and so perfect.

This is when Hamlet is trying to convince everyone that he’s mad. I love the usage of modern costuming and even a few inserts of modern dialogue. It really brought it all to life. The jester hat was the representation of madness – he always wore it when acting crazy and took it off to show that he was in his right mind.

Watching the play within the play.

Coming across the king confessing to the murder of his father.

Ophelia mad after her father’s murder.

The gravedigger. She was awesome. She sung "Them Bones" while tossing bones and finally the skull at Hamlet.

This is the best one of the set, I think. This is the infamous "Alas, poor Yorick…" scene.

He’s holding the note from the king ordering Hamlet’s death. If you’ll look it just says "Kill Hamlet" and has a little cartoon at the bottom. Hilarious.

The end. 🙂

They’re doing Twelfth Night tonight. We’d planned to go but there are other things I’d rather do so we’ll be going to the next one and I will definitely be looking them up again next summer.

This morning I ran my 5k!

Me, Jeannie (the administrative secretary for our office) and Jessica (an aide and my former boss’ daughter).

I didn’t run the entire thing but I did run a significant portion of it. The hardest part was the end. I was so tired and did not want to quit running while everyone was cheering. The end was almost emotional. I nearly cried. The purpose of the 5k was to raise money for treatment and research for cancer. There were a lot of survivors and family members there. Many of the runners had shirts made with the names of their family member(s). There were signs along the whole route that had quotes from people who were either running or were cancer survivors/patients.

It was wonderful, really. I can’t wait to do another one. The next one I know of is Halloween. Next year I’d really like to run the half marathon. I know that’s optimistic but I think I’m going to try for it.

Some random other photos:

Susan (an ODer) bought me flowers after my grandfather’s funeral. She sent roses and tulips which were lovely but she also sent this mini rosebush. It’s blooming beautifully right now. The card said that with so much death she thought I could use some life in the house. It was a beautiful, thoughtful thing and one that was more needed than I realized. I can’t seem to stop myself from collecting plants now. There really is something reassuring about all the

beautiful, living things in the house and I keep getting better at keeping them that way.

The roses and tulips.

The basket of Kalanchoe that work sent.

Scrabble Tile coasters. I tried to make most of them motivational or positive affirmation quotes. The first one is "Only as much as I dream can I be."

Zac made an awesome  holder for them out of the tile stands. The coaster idea we got from Pinterest but the holder was all him.

Speaking of Zac being creative:

His second ever painting. The first one was of the Moab desert and was really impressive. I’m amazed at this one honestly. His SECOND PAINTING?! He has another chessboard all painted downstairs just waiting for him to decide what pieces need to be on it.

And that is all, lovelies. Tonight I am drinking wine and either taking pictures or fiddling with paint. I haven’t decided. It’s been a beautiful weekend so far and it’s just half over.
