another? *added shilo pics*

okay, so we all know (well… most of us know) that my parents have an adorable, yet incredibly stubborn and head-strong dog.  Arrow.

well… my cousins had gotten a german shepherd last year and it ended up being very sick and died of hip displasia before it was even 6 months old.  so after waiting a couple months they decided to try again, and bought a white german shepherd.

if any of you have had a german shepherd you can skip this part.  if you haven’t… german shepherds are very protective, fiercely smart and loyal and if not trained can be incredibly difficult.  now, add all that to the fact that my cousin’s have never owned a dog bigger than a small poodle. >.<

so here they are with this white german shepherd, that they can’t control and is ruining their house because they won’t take him to training.  during thanksgiving my cousins came to my parent’s house and brought Shilo with them (the german shepherd).  my dad had heard they had been having trouble with him and was curious if he was just a difficult dog (which is hard to imagine with a german shepherd).  my dad goes out to meet shilo, bends down and pulls shilo to him, and immediately shilo listened to every word my dad said.  not wanting to take over what my cousin’s should be doing, my dad left the dog alone the rest of the day (apparently shilo followed him around all day almost).

last week, Angela calls my dad and says, "We can’t do it anymore.  We just can’t control him.  Would you like to buy him from us?"  my dad, the shrewd person he is, tells them that they aren’t doing well money wise, but will take shilo off their hands for free, but to try and sell him first.

sunday night i get a call from my mom and she randomly says in passing, "oh, your father is bringing Shilo home tonight."

huuuuuuuh?!  lol

so yeah, now my parents have two dogs.  arrow is now almost 5, and shilo isn’t quite a year old (and he’s already arrow’s size).  they get along great so far.  my mom is going to take a picture of shilo some time today and i’ll update this with the picture in a bit.

i just wanted to write about it because i thought it was funny.

p.s. i’m pretty sure that as soon as i get a house i’m going to get a german shepherd.  they are hands down my favorite dogs, and you can train them so easily.  the only downside is that they can be protective to the point of being dangerous.  still, they are great dogs and i can’t wait to get one.

here are the pictures of Shilo.

at six months old Shilo is already Arrow’s size.  pretty though.

Awwww.

thanks for your note. the dog is so cute!! I have a german shepard and she is very sweet…actually quite the opposite of what a guard dog should be like.

I love german shepherds. One of the best dogs we had growing up was Asa, our german shep. Best trained dog I’d ever met. Miss that guy. I’ve always been partial to St. Bernards, myself. I like big, lazy, keep-my-feet-warm dogs. LOL.

they are my favorite dogs too, hands down. such awesome beasts.

I love german shepherds. But as someone who has to restrain dogs for a job, promise me this: when you do get a puppy some day you will play with its paws all the time and it’s ears too! PROMISE! That way she or he’ll be waaay better for nail trims and ear cleanings which can otherwise be a NIGHTMARE LOL. <3

aw, babies! Can’t wait for the pic.

January 3, 2010

my old dog, may he rest in peace, was a german shepherd/sheltie mix. great dog. loyal, smart, cute as you’ve ever seen. i love GSD’s. 🙂

My brother bought a German Shepherd years ago. Spent thousands of dollars to buy him and then some more thousands of dollars on hip surgery to prevent hip dysplasia. Waste of money! That poor dog was thrown outside from day one and never got any attention. Then they had a child and nobody knows what happened to poor Tully. People should have to get a license to own a pet.

Arrow is so cute!

January 4, 2010

that’s what my parents have. he’s almost 9… he’s so well behaved, it’s amazing!

January 4, 2010

Awh… cute. I grew up with dogs of all sizes around me and yes it’s just a matter of them accepting you as the alpha. My family has that down to a t. It even went so far that… oh gosh this is a long story. Try it short: oldest dog died, other dog always knew he has to wait until Trixi (old dog) got her treat first. So Trixi died and at first Fips (younger dog) was confused as to if he is

January 4, 2010

already allowed to accept the treat… cos he knew he had to wait until the auld girl got her first… awh… tragic… but that’s the “pack” we had going at home. It’s the only way to be with dogs. Nothing to do with being harsh or whatever… it’s just natural wolf hierachie (i can’t spell that word lol sorry)

oh wow! i love those doggies!!!!!!!!!

January 4, 2010

Ooooh, very pretty. I’ve always been a fan of the solid black ones, however. I think I have a fascination with things that LOOK mean but in fact aren’t. I like a good mystery. *Grins*

January 5, 2010

Aww yay!! I love dogs (and yes German Shepards are hard if you don’t have the right discipline to have one). They are beautiful dogs, congrats on the new family member (we all know dogs are people too lol).

January 5, 2010

what a cool lookin dog!

January 5, 2010

I had no idea they came in white! Good for your dad, and good for your cousins for realizing they couldn’t give Shilo the home he needed. I hope they find a more docile breed next try.

January 5, 2010

January 5, 2010

What a STUNNING dog!!! WOW!!! 😀

January 5, 2010

WOW Shiloh’s a beauty! 🙂

January 5, 2010

She’s beautiful! I would love a German Shepherd, but I totally don’t have a the time or energy to devote to a dog with so much energy. Someday, maybe when I move onto an acreage, I’ll have one.

January 6, 2010

Very Cute dogs!! Just a little PSA for ya…when you do get one, adobt from a shelter:) Most of the time they are great dogs, already or partially trained, and you’d be saving a life:)
