HOLY COW (Part deux)

okay… i was chatting with a friend at rehearsal tonight… he was a Seattle Young Artist last year, and he was filling me and a friend (danny… WAY cool) in on the skinny yo…  *smacks self*  sorry, not sure where that came from.

so anyway…

he was telling me everything he experienced… (i shall make it all nice and neat so is easy to read… 😉 (serpiens, you’re rubbing off on me and i’m not even in school!) )

• you get paid $450 a week (and its 20 weeks long, which is $9,000.  about $8,100 after tax)
• you are learning something at all hours, either singing, fencing, acting, diction, taxes… (for some reason the government likes to punish artists… grrr)
• the general director of Seattle Opera, Spieght Jenkins, will pick you to do roles for the opera (usually small ones, a couple of lines here, a couple of lines there.  but that is also paid, seperately from the Young Artist pay…)
  — side note here: when we did lohengrin this last summer, i met one of the young artists from last year.  he told me that when he came to do the role he was to do (which was less than maybe 2 minutes of singing…) he met Spieght later that day and was given a $6,000 perdigm check (for a 2 month stay).  not to mention what he got paid on top of that…
• Spieght will bring big name agents out to hear you sing when you preform, and he also seems to become a big advocate for you… 

this is just some of the many things (most of which have slipped my mind) he told me tonight.  needless to say i’m a little more than EXCITED!

however, this means i need to SERIOUSLY kick ass on thursday.  i need to pump it up a notch.  *flexes neck from side to side*
