Hit a deer

Tonight, while I was at work, cleaning, my fiancee, Rob called me.  I figured that he had forgotten (again), that I was suppossed to be cleaning and was wondering where I was.  No such luck, truns out he hit a deer on his way home from work tonight.  Thankfully, he’s fine.  Unfortunately, the deer and the car are not.

It was a large buck, and it took out most of the front of his car.  He has an older Cutlass, that’s not worth very much, so he didn’t carry full coverage insurance on it, so we’re pretty much on our own.

It doesn’t make much sense to put all the money into fixing the car at this point.  We were going to restore it, but we just can’t afford that.  So now we’re not sure what we’re going to do with it.  Probably just pull stuff forward and get it running decent then try to sell it off to someone who wants a project.  Dad wants to try to repair it, but I’m pretty sure that we’d never get anywhere near what we would put into it.

So we’re going to get a loan and buy something new.  We figure we can swing $5000, and we saw some things in that price range that we’d like to check out.  So we may be getting a new car / truck this weekend.

Here are some pictures, the radiator seems to be ok.

As you can see, most of the brackets are bent / broken.

Because of the way he clipped the deer, it spun around and hit the side of the car.

I can’t believe that the mirror didn’t break off.  It’s got a pretty deep scratch in it.

Yikes. Man, that’s something I’d never want to hit: a deer. That would be horribly traumatic for me (and obviously hurt the car). Hope you guys can find something that works.

I’m sorry… 🙁 At least you may get a newer car out of the deal. ~*
