They Amputated Today

They amputated his leg about 4-6 inches above the knee. He did well through the surgery. When he came back from recovery to the CICU the nurse called and we all went back to see Dad.  He was awake and talking and said he wasn’t hurting like he was. He was still a bit out of it and was telling us after the Doc visited with him this morning he was going home today because the surgery was not going to be that long. It wasn’t as long as it used to be that is for sure. 1 hour and he was in recovery and the doc was calling. When Grandma had her 2 legs amputated it was a 6-8 hour process. Dr. A. told Dad he had fitted people with prosthetics in their 90’s and there was no reason for him to lay in the bed he could get up and move. Hope he can convince Dad of that. My brother (younger one) is going to come over and build some ramps there are steps all over the house. He is also going to put a 3′ door in the bathroom from their bedroom so he can get a chair in their at first or whatever he needs.  Anyways he was resting well when we talked to the nurse which he needs right now, we don’t think he realizes that his leg is actually gone yet. He is just glad to not have the bad pain. He was having to have morphine today to dull the pain. I am thankful it was traded for a pain that will go away, a surgical pain…
Hugs to all. Love sent your way
