Day 67 68 Yes I can…..// averting disaster..
67 was getting in a bit of an anxiety state about today, early on anyway. Was thinking the worst about not finding a safe place to store my bags and having to carry them around all day. But the Internet told me that the upmarket Chancellor hotel would store them, so I went down there early to check it out … And yes they would! Great, I went back to Sweden (House) and checked out. I will give them a very bad report. There are already heaps of bad reports on Trip Advisor. The place should be condemned, not fit for human habitation. But I survived. I’ve stayed in some real budget places but this was the pits. Next time, Super 8 for me.
ok having stashed my 2 bags with the Chancellor, I went and had a slap up brekkie, and celebrated the expulsion of my anxieties. I knew I was in a good mood because I tipped well! Then down to Pier 29 where I waited for YAH, but they were delayed and I missed them because I didn’t have any phone. The first race started at 1 15, and just about then a man in a red shirt spoke to me! It was YAH and Alex, and the chances of them finding me amongst that crowd must have been very remote. And then…..almost complete disaster on the water for Emirates Team NZ. They made a mistake when leading and only just prevented the boat from tipping over. A defining moment maybe. They lost the race to Oracle, but seemed to be sailing ok.
And then the second rendezvous by compete chance. Velvet and K spotted me amongst the crowd so we were all together now. And as we watched the second race, the wind got up over the limit, and the race was abandoned with Team NZ leading. We adjourned to the Waiheke Island Yacht Club for a drink, and even then the coincidences were not over because Alex bumped into his wife and daughters!
We said our goodbyes, I picked up my bags and caught the Bart train to San Bruno. It was good to have a nice clean large room again after my 3 nights in Sweden House. Went out for a bit of an explore….nice dinner in the shopping mall, pizza, salad and really nice Minute Maid juice.
68 Yes…I can…walk to the airport. Just did it! It’s only 25 minutes walk. So that was wrong info from the desk when I arrived. Yay. Got myself a late check out at noon, then I’ll ask them to look after my bags for the afternoon and then I’ll head for the airport.
Ok you know what’s coming…
" I left my heart…booby doobie do…..in San Francisco…….."
I’m glad you got to see them all again!!! Be careful traveling back home:) **hugs**
