Days 54 55 Berlin Merlin….
54 walked and walked and walked, from hostel right through to Brandenburg gate and beyond to Grober Stern, a beautiful column and gold statue. Then back, stopping off at points of interest and to eat sausage and chips for lunch. Its a big bustling city, 3 and a half million people….
Loved the many street entertainers…..gave me some good ideas for when I want to do something similar back on Waiheke, and it will involve dressing up! Came back for a rest to the hostel. The one80 hostel is huge, modern, and full of the buzz and the music of young people. Makes me feel comfortable in the youth of my retirement! The Italians were quieter this evening…..
55 another pretty good nights sleep. The Italians checked out. I went through the Dome, only 4 Euros, coz im an old age pensioner!! right up into the dome itself, wonderful building, rebuilt after the destruction in the 2nd world war. Met Merlin for lunch. He is my friend Kerry’s son. working in IT in Berlin. only the second NZer ive met on this trip. Nice quiche lunch in a cafe of his choice.
My IPad gave up the ghost during the evening of 54. Not sure if its my problem or the hostels. Weather turned very wintry. Windy and cold. Brrrr. Dorm very quiet now, 5 of us, all women apart from me. Got chatting to a young woman from mainland China, there are so many young women travelling, either alone or in groups.
Today (56) I have to check out of room 385 and into room 383. Shouldn’t be too much of a problem! 2 more full days in Berlin, then off on a bus to Zurich via Munich.
BTW it was Merlin who originally put me on to OD, through his travel diary when he first went to Germany and Prague…
Tara for now. TTFN. Etc etc…..
EDIT no it’s not my IPad……I’m in Starbucks, and its working perfectly…xx
Glad it’s not the iPad acting up! 🙂

Glad it is not your iPad. If I were single, when I started on SS I would have a small camper and I would scare the peewadden out of my children and take off by myself. I’ve been cowardly but now I want to see my country and I would take off and do it.

Berlin is large. I find Vancouver a lot to cope with. Mmmm…I love German red cabbage. I’d be ordering that a lot. Along with schnizel.

Hahaha, I look forward to your idea of street performance on Waiheke… Dressing up, eh? Hmmm… Winter already! I will have to see at what latitude Berlin lies. I think you will love Zurich!
