Day 48 Copenhagen **

Just to round off day 47, it was a pleasant flight over to Copenhagen from Stansted, and the Danish had fewer formalities I think than at any other international airport. Just a cursory glance at my passport, no forms to fill in, my bag was already on the carousel, probably only 10 minutes after landing, and everybody just walked through the ‘nothing to declare’ lane, no officers around or baggage checks. Brilliant. I walked through to the train ticket office. But here I got the wrong information about where my hotel was, and ended up getting off at the second station in error. So I walked around a bit looking for Wakeup Copenhagen Hotel, couldn’t find it, but found CabinMetro where I’m staying Friday, so asked them where I should go, and was redirected back to the train and went on another stop which was Central Copenhagen. I asked a security guard directions and then found my hotel ok. It’s one of those very modern contemporary design places with very small rooms, but its ok. A bit expensive. Anyway, didn’t bother to unpack and went straight out and searched for dinner. Found a pizza restaurant and consumed a large pizza . Interesting city at first glance with historical buildings, the Tivoli Gardens were right there next to the railway station, and there was the usual hubbub you get in a big city.

So.. Day 48, slept in a bit, out about 10 am to look around. Grabbed a coffee and chocolate croissant for brekkie, and then decided to walk to see the Little Mermaid. Took me about an hour, lots of canals and old rigged sailing boats, took heaps of pics, and got a guy to take one of me right up next to the Mermaid. Wandered back to the hotel for a bit of a rest, then out again for dinner. Good choice, all you can eat pizza and salad for 79 Kroner, so I had a nice glass of red wine with it. Bill was 114 Kroner, about 26 bucks, not bad. I did get lost a few times today, and once I went round in the same circle 3 times. Duh! Lots of tourists all over.

Having breakfast in the hotel in the morning, and then a train ride to Sweden (Malmo) where I’m gonna meet long time friend and fellow diarist Fire and Ice. Excited!!

I remember Fire and Ice. Have fun. Are you going to Norway too? Lots of people of Norwegian descent in NE Iowa.

We don’t have a Mermaid statue in BC but there is a “Girl in the Wetsuit” in Stanley Park.
