Day 25 Pubs / half-marathon awaits…
At first I thought Dublin was a bit rough, but after walking around a bit, realised that the area on the other side of the Liffey was more touristy and upmarket. It was just some streets around my hotel were….a bit rough!
Enjoyed a traditional Irish breakfast which is sort of like a traditional English beakfast, with the addition of ?? black pudding??… Very nice it was too. So…it was about time I did some serious walking. Before breakfast I power walked for an hour, finding St Stephens Green, where the race starts. Beautiful area. About midday I headed for the hotel where I could pick up the race pack. It was a bit further than I thought. The DT Dublin Hotel, and it took me an hour to walk there. Got the pack with the freebies, shirt, munchies, advertising deals etc, and started back. Thats when I got lost. But I soon found my way again. The street entertainers were fantastic, including a really good hip hop group. And young musicians playing violins…nice. As I walked around, I realised just how many pubs there were. Several had live music coming from within.
Bought dinner in a Thai take-away and took it back to the hotel to eat. Yummy chicken curry. On screen while I was waiting at the take-away, were highlights of the Chiefs versus Brumbies Super 15 final which the Chiefs won.
This is the Stiletto in the Ghetto. Not sure who the statue is….but there are so many statues around here.
Right now I’m struggling to sort out a flight from Stansted to Copenhagen which I’ve already paid for on the 25th. It has zero luggage and wont let me change it. I’ve found the whole internet booking system very challenging. Maybe LOTB or a help line phone number can sort it out.
This is Molly Malone, of course…
I’m quite pleased with myself on another matter though. I found the Hard Days Night hotel in Liverpool, Beatles themed, and I’m staying there one night on the night of our family reunion, Aug 10th.
OK outta here…got to go find some lunch, then meet up with LOTB later….
I think I would really enjoy Dublin…beautiful.

Me too. I’ve always wanted to go to Ireland. My 7/8th Irishness keeps calling me back.

The statue in OÂ’Connell Street is James Larkin, who was an Irish trade union leader and socialist activist.
