Day 6..arrived Zurich, it ain’t half hot…

On checking my flight time last night I was pleasantly surprised to see it was 10.20 and not 8.30 this morning, so I had a less rushed packing up session this morning. I did get the air con sorted btw, what I thought was a bedside radio turned out to be the air con control panel! Double DUH.  So the Hilton was excellent value for 90 bucks. Their free shuttle dropped me at Terminal 1 and I checked in and went and had breakfast (pizza toast) and waited for my flight. seat 27G on flight LX161….and a very good seat it was. There wernt many spare seats, but luckily 1 of them was right beside me, so I could spread out a bit. Took off on time, and 11 hours and 10 minutes later, landed in Zurich, slightly early. I was coughing and spluttering a bit, so felt for the passengers around me,,,, It can get boring on these long haul flights, so I played games, listened to music, watched some old sports TV programmes, and tried to doze, but my sore throat etc didn’t allow me more than a few minutes sleep. Very quick throug formalities at the airport, then grabbed some Swiss money from the ATM, and got Information to help me with directions to my hotel. It was train, tram and walk 20 metres, checked in here at the Hotel Krone Understrass, comfortable, but small compared with the Hilton.

Got my free Internet going, and then ventured out about 7 pm ………….within 20 minutes I got myself lost!!! That’s a record shortest time ever in a foreign city. Retrac my steps a bit and all ok. Love the trams. Very expensive shops, there is an air of wealth, didn’t see any homeless here…. Found a fish restaurant and ordered perch….or I think that’s what he said, quite a few different languages spoken here, so I may have misheard. Guessing the waiter / owner was from Turkey, should have asked him. I did ask him how many languages he spoke, He said lots, a bit of English, Spanish, Italianish, Croatiaish…… I understood. Nice guy though, and the fish was superb, 26 Swiss Francs. A bit expensive….and I think Zurich seems to be an expensive city. Will go exploring tomorrow, but I’m back here in September, so won’t rush tomorrow.

Still haven’t got that cable to enable my pics to transfer to OD through this device, maybe tomorrow.

Ok it’s almost 1 am, so I’ll say good night, Bon nuit, sayonara……..xo

Glad you got there safely. If you get lost in Zurich, just follow the tram lines and/or try to get back to the main station or the lake (they are at opposite ends of Bahnhofstrasse), and take it from there. 🙂 And remember, the hilly part of Zurich is on your left when you walk away from the main station towards the lake, and on your right when you walk away from the lake to the station. It is one of the most expensive cities on earth, without a doubt. You actually did really well to get yourself a nice dinner for 26 Fr. Even Mc Donald’s can cost you a small fortune. The supermarket chains (Migros & Coop) sometimes have restaurants attached to them that are pretty nice and not too pricy. Or you could just grab some bread from a supermarket or bakery (Swiss bread is the best bread in the universe! No, I’m not biased at all, LOL!) and tuck in with some cheese and/or cold meats. Or try the Pretzels and sandwiches from the little stalls, oh, and don’t forget pizza, which they do very well in Switzerland! 🙂 Have fun and say hello to my old country from me. x

Record time for getting lost but it must have been close to a record time for finding yourself again. Mr. LBH toured Europe in the 1970s and he still talks about how expensive Zurich is.

I too know people who rave over how beautiful but how expensive Switzerland is.. Have fun!
