sick dog update
Since writing my last entry (just before 7 AM) things have gotten a little better. I called the vet at 8 AM. I was told to basically let nature take control. After 12 hours of Sammy (dog) puking, try introducing him back to food…..like cook rice, boil hamburger and feeding him. If his puking continued after 12 hours (pushing 24 hours) to call the vet again tomorrow morning.
Just after I called the vet, Sammy puked again. He still wasn’t eating, still not drinking water, still not being himself. I went to the store to buy soft dog food (we buy the hard/crunchy stuff cause it’s better for their teeth and breath). Sammy refused soft food (normally he loves it….or food in general). I was so concerned. At the time I was at the store, Aaron (boyfriend), text me to ask about Sammy. He thought it was stupid the vet place didn’t want to see Sammy today (aka $$ for them). He was trying to give me ideas to keep me and Sammy calm, make both of us feel better (me mentally, Sammy physically (tummy)).
So around 9ish AM I laid in bed with both dogs. I wasn’t tired but I knew Sammy needed a nice place to lay and sleep. Well, around 10 AM Sammy started to semi fell better. (330 AM first puke to 10 AM to semi feel better). He’s had super small doses of soft food. Eating and not puking since 8 AM is good.
Sammy is still very tired, very weak. But semi eating.
So today as far as work goes, I’ll get an occurrence. I’m still under company policy, so it’s not a huge deal. And since I talked to my boss this morning, it was his idea to tentatively give me tomorrow off. It’s tempting to stay home. I guess I’ll see how the night goes.
I’m just glad Sammy seems to be getting better. I’ve never seen him this sick. He’s 3.75 years old (4 in early January). He has no energy, which is very unusual for him.
Would he have been out where he could get something poisonous?
@dlk082244 That’s what I was thinking. We were at the dog park Tuesday afternoon. Since I have 2 dogs that go into different directions sometimes (like on Tues) I can’t watch every move they both make.

It still concerns me, especially if it is not like him. It could be nothing, just a weird bug, but it could be something like a blockage if he ate something he shouldn’t have, or gastroenteritis. Hopefully he’s doing better now and is taking in fluids. I worry about dehydration too, though it would probably be more on the mild side given his age and no other on going medical conditions. With that much vomiting I would have definitely had you bring him in especially if this is out of the ordinary for him.

I am so sorry about your dog. My dog had a very tender stomach and would puke and everything else. It took me years to figure him out – but worth it!
