Man of god vs. The Flood
***Just an FYI, this is a pretty opinionated entry. Read if you like, but if you get pissed, keep it to yourself.***
There was a man who lived under a bridge. The man was a man of god, homeless as can be, however. He heard one day, form a newspaper article about a bad flood about to hit the city. He said, “It will be ok. The Lord will protect me.” The next day, sure enough, the flood started. The roads were all water now. Half of his area was now submerged. A boat came along with a few rescue workers in it. they asked him to come in and they would take him to safety as the flood would continue. The man denied their invitation and said, “No. I am a man of God. He will protect me.” Not wanting to waste time, the boatmen shrugged and left to find more survivors. The next day the entire city was under water, and the mans land was now under water, though he could still stand. But the water was still rising. A Helicoptor came by and over the loudspeaker said “Sir, please climb up the ladder, we will take you to higher safer grounds, the city is flooded and it’s not stopping!” The man looked up and shook his head. “No, I am a man of god! I have read the good book very day! My god will protect me!” And the helicoptor left. Well, the man drowned sure enough. And when he got to the pearly gates, he DEMANDED an audience with god! “Why have you betrayed me? I have een your servant my whole life! Why did you left this happen?” God looked at him in suprise and said “I send you a newspaper article, a man with a boat, and a helicoptor. What the hell are you doing here?”
Case in point, my feelings on religion. You cannot just pray and things will happen. You have to do them. God is what gives you the power to do things. But god will not intervene. What happens happens. there is no purpose to it, no master plan. It’s natural reactions to things we do. We do not get into car accidents because god wanted us to, we get into car accidents because the other guy is a douchebag and was drinking. God cannot give you what you want, because he has no control over our free will. You can give yourself to him and do what YOU FEEL HE WANTS. But that doesn’t mean he’s speaking to you, per say. You can say god hates this or that, but really, YOU hate this or that. YOU hate it becuase you think god hates it. God hates nobody, God hates Gays, God hates blacks, God hates *fill in the blank* is all total bullshit. God is the embodiment of what we think society should be like. Which is fine. Religion is a great backbone to anyone. It gives them guidance. Some people need a structured environment to thrive. Some people cannot handle structure.
Does some ultimate power exist? who knows. Probably. Are they still here? It’s possible. But the real beauty of the human race is that we are a living breathing thing. Our society is a living thing. We evolve as a whole. We bring upon what happens to us. It’s not some foreign power that dropped the bomb on the middle east. It was the USA. Us. Why? Because our leader is a moron, but also because their leader was a moron, and a tyrant. We just had more power then them.
Just remember that while you can give God all the credit, put all the blame on him as well. Without god, there would be no homosexuality. Without god, there would be no war. Hate. bombs.
That is why I believe there is no God shaping our world. Maybe keeping a watchful eye, like a science expierement. But activly living? Only through the ideals we believe to be correct. Or in some cases, the ideals one or two people is correct, and they instill fear into the rest to follow their rules. Wether they agree or not, they learn to deal.
I personally am a spiritual person, but I am not Christian, Buddist, or anything. I am me. I am a good person, anyone of my friends can tell me that. And if there is a god that would deny me heaven if it exists, because I’m following my human nature of which he designed, well, that’s not a god I want to spend eternity with anyways.
As always,
James
