Relative terminology, theoretically speaking

Good vs. Evil
God vs. Man
Faith Vs. Belief
Innocent Vs. Guilty
Right Vs. Wrong

It’s all relative.

What determines What’s good or evil?  Some people it’s just the law. If it’s against the law, it’s evil. Some people, it’s reason. Common sense. There are just things you know to be wrong. To some people, it’s religion. If their god decrees it’s wrong, well then without question it’s gotta be wrong.

But what makes a God?  Some people seem to get confused with the word God. Many people believe God is a Christian thing. Well, you’re wrong. The Higher power people believe in, is typically called a god. Not in all religions mind you. But the word God, does not define one person, or being. It describes a type of person or being. And some people turn to that being or person for advice, and for help in life. So then maybe a psychologist is a form of a God. They dedicate their lives to helping people with complicated everyday problems. Maybe Doctors are gods. They hold hundreds of peoples lives in their hands every month. Would they then be gods? Maybe The Government is a group of beings that create one large god. They create laws, they set what’s good and evil and enforce it.

But no, they are not Gods. They are man.

So then, how do we all know what a god is? How do we know a certain god exists? Well, with some there’s history and carvings of a man that had brilliant thoughts, and views, and people turned to him for help and worshipped him. Then after death, is deemed a god.

Some see a painting or statue of an animal-man/woman where in stories was a great warrior and decide to worship them for their brilliance with a sword.

Some people read a book and believe. They read a book written by man. Maybe those men really did see all these miracles. Maybe these men just created a being to illustrate more clearly THEIR viewpoints on how life should be lived. People cannot think on their own sometimes, they need to be given a focus point. a Hero to follow. A savior. A Warrior. A Man. Like you and me. So they generate one. It’s possible. To deny that is to close your mind off to thousands of possibilities and live ignorant, and manipulated. Afraid, yet will fight for their faith..

But that’s just it. Which is great. Some people have a faith, some people will not care if it’s true or not. Some people will see the ideals behind it all, they will see the intent of the religion. They will see all the good things and the bad things. They will look at different religions to put their faith into, to find the one that the most agree with.

But there are also people that BELIEVE. They believe this man roamed the earth. They believe this man went without food for 3 years except ONLY what he needed to survive. They Believe Jesus walked on water. They Believe. It’s different then faith. Because they believe in their god. Some have a fear of their god. Not fear as in scared of them, but fear is in afraid not to do exactly what they say. Don’t goto church, “Oh shit, I’m going to hell!” Say Goddamnit “Blasphemy! Oh no!!” They don’t have faith. They believe in their religion though. But they don’t question it. Only their religion is correct. They hear their inner voice tell them something’s good or bad, but it’s not their inner voice. To them, it’s god speaking to you. Call it what you will, but if its your faith or your belief, you still have guidance. And that’s all that matters. You’re being as kind as you can, living your life the best way you can given your beliefs/faith/thoughts. The problem that coincides there is who then will be at fault for something someone does that’s deemed OK by one religion, and Not OK by another? If you believe so strongly that this action is OK, but yet another man believes that it is not OK… Are they wrong? Or are you wrong? Who is TRULEY at fault? Is anyone at fault?

What if the gods clash with their opinions? What if the Law, and church don’t see eye to eye?  Who is right then? The Church and Government are separate, supposedly. But what about Wars? Surely gods don’t want wars. But if that’s the case, why then were there Crusades? Gods told these men to kill anyone that doesn’t believe. Are gods so selfish? Or was it not Gods that said this, was it the inner voice? Well, just know that you can’t pick and choose to fit your argument. There’s going to be pros and cons to everything you do in life, so get used to it now. If a man kills a mass murderer, is that Ok? No. But if a Government official kills a mass murderer it is… So what defines that? If a man came to my house, killed my parents, my animals, my friends, and I had that chance, you bet I’d kill him. Why would I just allow the man that has destroyed my life and everything I loved, to walk away? Goto a nice little cement block, and let him go free in 40 years? Am I guilty? Of course.

But am I wrong? Hm. I know many, many people would do the same if the positions were reversed. Imagine if someone killed EVERYTHING  you hold dear to you. Would you destroy him if you had the chance? And think about this rationally. Don’t say, “Of course not! That’s wrong!”  Think about this. Think about every time you’ve been upset. When you’re just about ready to explode. Think about when you’re depressed, how much you just don’t care anymore. Now mix those together. You’re about ready to explode, and don’t give a shit who’s in your way. Now think if the one man that cause ALL that pain is right in front of you. And your chance comes, clear as day. Wouldn’t you do the same? That doesn’t make it right… But most people would still do it.

And it may not be right. Yet people would still do it. Maybe not normally, but when you’re not thinking clearly, you don’t do normal things. You do drastic things. Does that then make you evil?

As always,

QUOTE OF THE MOMENT: “Life is just one big opinion. Everyone has em, and everything thinks theirs is OBVIOUSLY the best, and the most logical. But everyone has different opinions. So deal with it, don’t try to preach it, and live the best you can. That’s all anyone can, and should, ask for.” – Me.

Sometimes that line isn’t quite so black and white, either. The gray in the middle is where most people get confused. But we’ve got to make those judgement calls on our own, and figure out what’s right, wrong, or so/so in our own situation.

Right and wrong, and black and white.. Black and white.. This vs that. It still makes us wonder, but yet no one can do anything about it without being looked down upon. holly –

I am happy I stumbled across your diary today. I was beginning to notice a lack of real writing & thought on this site and your entry was refreshing to read. I respect your intelligence; everything you wrote has danced circles around my mind for quite some time. The last 2 paragraphs remind me of the book/movie “A Time To Kill.” I know what you mean. Thank you for sharing all of this. xo

ryn: stepping is kind of an old dance form mostly done by african-american fraternities and sororities. but high schools and middle schools have begun teams, and they have very interesting competitions all over, but mostly in the east and northeast. thanks for the luck; we did really well (better than the sorority in my opinion), and they loved us.

What happens when a person’s opinions tell them that evangelizing will bring them salvation? Then they must preach their beliefs, because eternity is at stake. That’s why people will never mind their own business and simply ‘let live’… when salvation is in the picture everything gets all muddled up.
