100 Minutes War
I am just giddy from happiness today. For the most part. Or something.
I had planned on waking up at 5am this morning and heading out the door between 6 or 7 to get Chip and head to New Jersey for the event. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that when my alarm rang, I rolled over, turned it off, and promptly fell asleep again.
So I awoke at 8am, cursed, and jumped to work on getting dressed (t-shirt and pj pants are fine for a car ride, really), getting both mine and Chip’s garb together (and ironed.. and yeah), and printing out directions before heading out the door at an unforgivable 9am.
I won’t even go into all the hell that broke loose trying to get Chip ready to go. Let’s just say we were not on the road towards Jersey until about 10am. Curses!
Jump forward past horrible traffic jams, getting lost, various fights and whatnot.. we arrived at the event at about 1pm. We parked, he dressed (I had managed to change into my garb somewhere on the western side of Connecticut while in the car.. leather corset and all), and then we headed towards the field.
I saw Ari in the distance… she ran… I ran. We hugged. Lisa was not far behind.. more hugging commenced. Then they gave me a big surprise… Kali had come up from Virginia for the event as a surprise! Bolting run/dash/stumble-in-skirt across the length of the hill.. found Kat first. I pounce-hugged her from behind.. then Kali came around from the tennis courts. It was a joyful reunion. I felt in a Pennsic sort of mood, sans drumming, fire, or alcohol.
Chip and I checked in with Troll, then wandered around to see who was about (not that it mattered to Chip.. but it did to me, dammit). I ran into my lovely Euro-puppy, Mathias, in the merchant area.. and that was nice. Some butterflies started doing whirls in my stomach. He seemed just as pleased to see me.. which is all good with me!
Battlefield on the other end of school.. ha.. like I could really find people all dressed in armor when I don’t know what their armor looks like! The only reason I knew my brother-in-law from the rest of them is Kim made him this really awesome purple tunic with furry leopard print fabric trim. And the only reason I saw my sister was I happened to see the only very short brown-haired girl in pretty garb that was actually standing in the area of the list field, as opposed to all of the people sitting on the hill watching.
Back across the school.. I got wrangled into marshalling the Class 2 youth boffer group.. which is the middle group. I can’t remember the age range there… 13-14? 12-14? Something like that. Ari and I had a blast with the kids.. I used some of the melees that I created at Simplefare on the kids.. like my Midget War and the Angel/Devil Battle. They seemed to enjoy it.. so I may very well make it tradition with me to run both of those scenarios again.
Eventually (in other words, two hours or so later) we decided to quit for the day.. just as I turned to go off the list, I saw Stephen in his armor.. I yelled for him, ran across the tennis courts, and pounce-hugged him. He caught me. That was a surprise. Strong, strong boy.
Then we all went over and sat together in the corner of the tennis courts. We all refers to Kat, Kali, Ari, Lisa, Stephen, Mathias, his brother Marcus, and me.. along with some boys I just don’t really know. Mathias was pretty up close and personal.. and I’m not sure how I felt about that. I’m not very big into PDAs, and he was all over me a bit… I felt sort of bad for everyone else.
To be continued, due to length of entry.
