Nursery *Edit

Okay, so it isn’t 100% finished.  The quilt needs to be finished and hung on the wall and I still need to arrange/clean some stuff up (and I intend to actually do something with that lamp someday), but I may never get around to posting pictures if I don’t go ahead and do it.

First, though, I made a mobile. 🙂  I got the idea from something a friend of mine posted on pinterest.

Here be teh crib.  Don’t worry, baby won’t be sleeping in the crib with all those stuffed animals and diaper bags.  She’ll actually be sleeping in a cradle in our bedroom at first.  The stuffed animals will all go into a toy hammock or two once we finally get around to ordering those.

That’s the bassinet portion of the pack-n-play under the crib.  Whoever decided that the basket part of the bassinet didn’t need to fit into the bag the rest of the pack-n-play goes into was a dumb ass.

Here’s the mommy-corner (or daddy-corner, depending on who’s sitting in it).  That pretty fleece blanket was made by an OD fave turned RL friend.  I think it’s going to keep me (I mean, baby!) very warm during feedings on cold nights.  The two baby carriers will not stay on the wall there.  They’re just hanging there for temporary convenience.

Changing table/dresser.  I still need to get covers for the changing pad.

Shelfy thing.

I’m really please with how all of the furniture we painted came out.  I think that we paid $24 for the dresser, shelf and the little table next to the chair and $20 of that was for paint.  🙂

Out of curiosity (parent-types, nannies, etc) which side of the car do you prefer your car seat on?

Edit: I should mention, I suppose, that the middle seat of our car is not an option.  Subaru does not suggest the middle seat b/c of safety concerns with the way the seat is shaped.  Sure, they put the latches and belts there and whatnot, but they recommend against using it.  In addition to that, we received a letter the day after we installed out base (had to make sure we could get it in, right?) letting us know about a safety recall on …. you guessed it … the belts in the middle seat because the way they are installed is not safe.  They are, of course, fixing the problem once the dealers get the proper parts, but it’s still not recommended to use that middle seat anyway.  So, we’re left with rear passenger and rear driver.  Right now, it’s on the rear driver for ease of removing it when I’m with the baby alone.  I wondered about the passenger side so that I could see if something was going on with the baby, but …  1) It’s a rear facing seat and it sits in just such a way that I wouldn’t be able to see anything except the car seat anyway and 2) I’m lazy and don’t want to walk all the way around the car to take the baby out all the time.  So, we’re going to get a little mirror thing that will allow us to use the rear view mirror to look into the back seat  mirror to see what the little spawn is up to.  I have to say, too, how surprised I am by how many people mentioned reaching back to fiddle with baby -while- they’re driving.  I can barely change the radio station without swerving a little while I’m driving.  Clearly, some people are way more talented drivers than I am.  Oh, and if Duckie is driving, the car seat will be moved to behind the passenger side because he needs the seat back further than the car seat will allow.  🙂

I think you put it on the opposite side of the driver’s side.

That mobile is beautiful. And I love the wall picture/painting with the tree & birds 🙂

the middle is supposed to be safest, but the least convient, passenger side if you do alot of driving by yourself, if you do more with the hubby than driver side so the passenger can reach the baby…..

OMG. The pack ‘n play thing is RIDICULUOS! We have the same one and it’s DUMB that it doesn’t fit in there. Love the furniture. Car seat goes in the middle. DEFINITELY take it to a Gold Cross and get it inspected. I SWORE I followed the directions to a T and it was STILL installed wrong:( Especially if there’s a hump (With Gracos, I know)…you’ll have to adjust the base(provided it’s an infant seat and not a convertible).

The nursery looks fantastic! I love that mobile, it’s lovely. Handmade things are so incredibly special. Normally the carseat is on the passenger side – that way, I can get Xander into the seat from the sidewalk. We have to park on the street (no driveway) so I’d rather not be dodging oncoming traffic while strapping him in! But when we go on long car trips, we switch it to behind thedriver’s seat. That way, we can put down the big half of the seat if necessary for packing (we have a hatchback) and the passenger can reach Xander while we’re driving.

Your mobile is very pretty. And the painted furniture is super cute. Personally, I put the the car seat either in the middle (in case if side impact), or opposite of which side I sit on- so since I drive- the passenger side for a quick glance back if needed.

Your nursery is adorable. My Mom always preferred the carseat on the passenger’s side. That way if she was driving she could easily reach over to give the baby their pacifier or something.

Aww it all looks so lovely. xxxxxxxx

I’m surprised a car company wouldn’t suggest putting a car seat in the safest spot. Weird. Maybe when you get the belt fixed you can ask them about it. When you get a mirror, make sure it will work on the back of the seat. We got the kind made for SUVs or that have a headrest and since our seat is in the middle, it didn’t work, so we had to rig it while we were on long trips so we could see him. You’ll find that moving the base will get really annoying, especially when it’s wintertime and cold out…so, you may just want to put it on the passenger’s side…unless Duckie doesn’t drive your car very often and it would only be like once a month. Otherwise, you’ll be switching it all the time and it’s a pain in the ass…especially since you basically have to put three times your weight on it to make sure it’s 100% secure. You’ll realize what I’m saying when the time comes:) I’m still just blown away by this middle of the seat issue. Weird.

I was told that Rear Passenger is safest as its apparently away from oncoming traffic and easiest to to get to in case of an accident…pretty sure there’s flaws in those arguements, but go with what YOU are comfortable with!!! xxxxxxxxxxxx

I’d just put it on the passenger side. Its a pain to move it back and forth 🙂

Just think … all this “controversy” over where to put the seat will seem like child’s play when it comes to the question of ::ominous music:: when to turn the seat to forward-facing. People get crazed over it, I’m telling you.

My car doesn’t allow car seats in the middle either. You’d think if it’s proven the middle is safest, they’d start designing more cars to use LATCH in the middle. #dumb. I think there’s lots of research for both sides, and I’m pretty sure they’ve concluded one is about as safe as the other. I put my son on the passenger side with a mirror so I can see him, and bc I park on the curb a lot, –>

So that way is door is always away from traffic.

I think it still works the same for you guys cos you’re like the flipped version of us. I really want to have the little one in the front with me to start as its JUST me but I dunno what will happen 🙁 xxxxxxxx

ryn: Yeah, I’m 9lb from when I got pregnant, but I was at my easily-attainable (aka no dieting) smallest then so I consider myself back to pre-pregnancy size. Breastfeeding is awesome like that.

April 9, 2012

RYN: Thank you for the suggestion of Soft Paws – I actually picked some up the other day for both of my cats and while they still try to claw the couches they aren’t ruining them. SUCCESS! By the way, those pictures of yours are adorable!

I love it but especially the furniture that you guys worked on and painted purple, they are gorgeous! Lily is one lucky little girl! 🙂
