Showered

Dudes.

My mom and sister came to town on Thursday night for a visit and for the baby shower that my sister was throwing me.  Surprisingly, we all managed to get along the entire weekend.  My sister was cranky on Sunday morning, but I’ll pretend she wasn’t.

The important part of the weekend, though, was me.  Ha.  I kid.  Sort of.  My shower was on Saturday.  Just me and 30 of my closest friends.  Again, I kid.  I don’t even have 30 not-close friends.  There were actually 11 people, counting me.  Not a bad turn out.  We played many, many games.  Melanie wouldn’t let me win any prizes (even though I won the first game!) because it was my shower.  Meanie.  Anyhow, the last hour of the shower was spent opening gifts.  An HOUR!  Holy crap.  I know that there were 10 people, but from the looks of the presents, it seemed more like 30 people had given me gifts.

I’m so grateful to them.  Duckie and I had a list of things that we felt we -had- to have before the baby arrived and we estimated the cost to be somewhere around $400.  After the shower, there were only 5 things left on the list.  The cost will be significantly less than $400.

This child has a bigger (and better) wardrobe than Duckie and I combined.  She’s pretty close to having more shoes than me, too!  My mom and dad bought us a stroller (which wasn’t on our $400 list only because we already knew they were buying it for us) and a ton of clothes.  My sister bought a diaper bag and filled it with baby-related things and then added a ton of clothes to that, too.  Lily got about 50 thousand onsies, a bathtub, a baby carrier, dresses, socks galore, a pack-n- play, crib sheets, one of a kind paintings done by Laura for the nursery, washcloths, a towel, more clothes, wipes, dust-less powder, and a billion other things (including a portable changing station from OD’s very own Avalon!).

Sadly, Duckie’s comp decided to break that same day.  He’s sure it’s the mother board, so we ordered a new one.  Since I don’t like dealing with pictures on the netbook, pictures will have to wait until Duckie’s comp is fixed.

And wait until you see the cake!  I asked an acquaintance that does cake decorating to make it for me.  It was HUGE, amazingly awesome and only $20.  When we went to pick the cake up, I almost cried.  It was just so perfect.  I ended up tipping her another $10.  $20 just seemed like ripping her off.

Umm….the end?

I want to see the cake!! I’m really glad you got so many necessary things. It makes such a difference. And yeah, everyone loves buying baby clothes – that lasts for awhile. My mom still has something new for Xander every time we see her. I think it’s great … it frees up money for other things!

That’s one thing about having friends and family I always find amazing – they help you get all the necessary stuff when you’re expecting and also when you start a new household. It makes me feel like hating people a little less to know that other people are so generous and stuff. Anyway…now I want cake, dammit. Oh well. Yay for you! How’s that pain, by the way? Is it gone or died down a little?
