11:37pm
The baby is moaning in the bed and I’m afraid I’ll have to go help put him to sleep.
In the meantime I just want to say that I’ve had cravings to journal, but just not time or energy. Today I had coffee LATE (9:30pm) and a peice of gum (nic) to wake up around 10:30. It has worked so far! I’ve had some time to chat with Roy (mainly about his Toyota Truck photos, and getting them onto my computer, and then about Kimmy who flaked on our date to go to the Farmer’s Market yesterday!)
Today I got to skype with my sister with my new computer. The Skyping experience was much smoother than with my old setup. And I even used my laptop, although she got a better sound and image from my desktop.
OK onto Robert’s progress (as he is now 21 months old!)
He wakes up early, comes into our room and says, "Hi!" with a big smile in the most cheerful way imaginable! With his high-pitched little voice it’s like a ray of sunshine entering the room! He is practicing talking so much! He likes to repeat what others say. While I am singing him "This old man" he will repeat the last word before a pause (This old man – "man!" – He plays one – "one!" He plays knick knack on my thumb – "Thumb!"…you get the idea)
In the bathtub when he plays he’ll lie down on his stomach and scootch around a bit (like a whale? or fish?) He just recently has decided he likes to SHOWER so he’ll stand in the streams of water without complaining about the water hitting his head. I can see he gets a tad uncomfortable with the water getting in his face, but he deals with it and chooses to stay in the shower (cuz I plug the tub so it’s a shower/bath). He’s able to follow my "Look Up!" command now, and help me to rinse the shampoo off of his head instead of the screaming crying fits he used to pull when it came time to rinse!!
We did fingerpainting for the first time on January 24th! (That was Sher’s b-day, and my father started my day with a phone call – luckily I didn’t hear it ring and it went to voicemail – letting me know it was Sher’s 62nd b-day and he really hoped I would call to wish her a happy b-day!! ARGH!! I started to stress about it right away! Finally I did just call her at home and ended up leaving a message. She never called me back – but I didn’t expect she would!) Robert really liked fingerpainting and he said, "paint!" a lot after that! Now he knows that I have his paint in a dresser drawer (the lowest one), but he forgets which drawer. So he’ll busy himself opening his drawers one at a time until he gets to the bottom drawer. That’s when he sucks in a breath of excitement and exclaims, "PAINT!" On his very first fingerpainting he did do a few handprints – one of which is red and pretty close to the size of his hand (It’s sloppy and smeared) but still so cool!
In speaking I’ve noticed that Robert cannot say his K’s, L’s, G’s, R’s (of course!), or F’s. I am trying to teach him how to say the F sound by physically tucking his lip over his teeth and trying to close his jaw. He hasn’t gotten it yet, but he’s inadvertantly done it a couple of times. And I am working with him. I should look that up, as I really don’t know how to teach speech stuff.
When it comes to potty training, I think he’s getting close. He’s aware when he pees on stuff now. (obviously he has to be sans diaper to figure that out!) and he has been telling me "Poo Poo" when he has a poo in his diaper. Sometimes he farts and says, "Shart" which is as close as he can get to saying "fart!" He also has said "Poo Poo" when he farts and then I suspect a poo is coming. I asked him today if I could take him to the potty for the poo and he said, No! He’ll probably pee in the potty before he poos in it! Oh, and the other day after his bath he got out of the tub and stood there peeing on the carpet in the bathroom!! I quickly grabbed his little potty that will play a tune when it gets wet, and I stuck it under his stream. A small amount of pee ended up in the little potty, but not enough to wet the sensors. So I started rotating the potty to get the pee to hit the sensors! When that didn’t work, I threw in a couple drops of water from the sink. It started to play the congratulatory tune! He got excited by that and wanted to rip the potty apart so he could flip it upside down and press the button that also makes it play music. It still had pee in it so I was adamantly trying not to let Robert have the potty seat yet! He kept trying and freaking out that he couldn’t have it!! SHEESH!! who would have thought he’d want that resevoir full of pee?! That’s gonna make it hard to let him pee on that potty! I’m sure I will not want to have to clean up a bunch of spilled pee all the time!
Well, it’s now after midnight and I could still read for a few minutes before I go to sleep. The Time Traveler’s Wife is the book I’m reading. Pretty good, if I could just stick with it to the end before I forget who the characters are!!
