Grandma (Li’l Grim)
3:23pm
My Grandma is right now on a ventilator fighting for her life (I hope fighting for!!) Everyone has flown/driven in to rally around her bedside. Except for me!! I am still here in sunny CA waiting waiting waiting (for her to IMPROVE!!) She is so little and frail, though. She’s 85 years old and my Mom said that before she went into surgery that my mom reviewed with her that she’s had a good, and happy life and Grim agreed. Of course, if she was wanting to get into surgery impatiently, then she would have agreed to anything probably!!
Allen was on a plane the day he got word that Grim was having emergency surgery. Her stomach perforated (OMG) and so the options were surgery or no surgery and neither had anyone’s hopes real high. But then she DID WELL!! She tolerated the surgery, and was extubated 1 day later (when they said 2 days of intubation in the beginning). She showed signs of improving. She was up in a chair and even chuckled at family.
Last night she took a turn for the worse. I had no idea. We were at Ginger and Vance’s house for the usual 4th of July picnic by the poolside. We took Robert (Dylan has been at his other Grandma’s for 2 weeks) (and, yes, the break has done me worlds of good) for the celebration and he had fun!! He ran all over. He wanted to get in the pool. So finally I take him in the water and he decides he doesn’t like any of the baby floaties and he wants to be held or to get out of the pool. So we sat out of the pool and I swooped him up by his wrists and dangled him into the water over and over. He loved that. I dunk him under one time! He came up sputtering, but he didn’t cry.
We watched fireworks after the sun went down. (they are on display at the casino across the street from their house!!!) Robert didn’t like them AT ALL. He attempted to run away, but settled for burying his face in my clothes until they were over. And at times I thought he had gone to sleep, but when Roy would request Robert to look at the show, Robert would look for a moment then resume his face hiding in my shirt!! Before the show, Robert had entertained himself pushing Kaylee in her stroller. She was fascinated by him pushing her! (Ray stayed right next to them and kept having to grab the stroller!) Robert was pushing her FAST!! She liked it! it was hilarious!!
Back to Grandma. I sat and was reading her diary from when she was 15 years old! 1939 entries. Including July 5, 1939. (today – 70 years ago) What a trip. I REALLY want to be able to have conversations with her about MORE THINGS – I DON’T want this to be the end!!! I wonder what she wants. I wonder if she wants to join Grandpa already.
Considering that she just broke her arm a week and a half ago!! Can you believe THAT?! On top of all this crap with the perforated stomach, she has a broken arm (quite fresh!) POOR THING, my Li’l Grim! I wish I were there to help her with groceries and EVERYTHING she wanted and needed. I know she relied heavily on my parents. And I know people would get annoyed with her asking them to do more than she maybe needed. People wanted her to do more for herself. And I understand that. BUt I would have loved to have catered to the li’l Grim. and Hopefully I still will get a chance.
I love her so much. She is a sane person in my life, who is strong and raised a family the old fashioned way. She was a beautiful teacher admired and loved by many people. She is patient and kind. She is so loving and gets so much joy from her family. And boy, does she love Robert. I REALLY Want to be able to take the baby to see her at the end of the month as I have planned and booked tickets for… on the 28th I was coming into town!! I was to see her with the baby on the 29th and 30th of this month!! I hope it wasn’t too late!! Please Hashem, hear my prayer (and many others in our family and friends) and let us have more time with my Grandma. The baby will love to see her soon!! Please help her get better soon! Everytime the phone rings I jump.
I’m sorry to hear about your grandmother.
