ear infection and Robert’s FIRST TOOTH!!
9:29pm (yes, EARLY!!)
I have been off work due to illness for a week now!! (only 2 shifts did I call off) I STILL am sick, but getting better. So tomorrow I go in. *sigh* It was FUN being with the KID everyday!! He’s so stinkin’ cute!!
I took him to the doctor Friday to see if he had an ear infection, as I suspected. and Yes, she said his left ear was red. I was suprised it wasn’t bilateral, as I’d seen Robert rub both his ears at separate times. He never rubs his ears. After how sick I have been, I’m suprised all he got was an ear infection. SHE said it was probably viral and that most doctors will send the child home with an antibiotic (?!) She said, "Well, NOT this office!!" and she sent us home with insstructions to take tylenol, blah, blah, blah. Exactly what I had been doing. But at least he was seen. Made me feel better. and I actually respect my Doctor more now that she doesn’t just put a kid on antibiotics if not necessary. She said that most infections clear up in 5-10 days on their own, and that I should just watch him and see…
The funny thing is, he is having a bit more irritability, etc now, cuz he has CUT HIS FIRST TOOTH!! bottom front right side!! I KNEW something was going on with his gums – especially lately. He stopped chewing on my knuckle a while ago. He used to love to chew on my knuckle!! He’d been turning away from chewing on stuff lately. But he would grind his face into my knee or shoulder, etc. – just mashing his face away. I’ve been trying to feel for the tooth and finally TODAY I felt the first bit of something SHARP!! YAY!!! He’s going to have 2 teeth soon!! My favorite stage (that I know of so far!!) He’s been feeling HOT, though, even through the tylenol. and today I gave him motrin. (generic of course!!) The motrin didn’t seem to make him feel better even after an hour and a nap. I was SURE it would do wonders!! Then I gave him the next dose of tylenol. and seriously, like 5 minutes later, he started to smile and cheer up and then had a WONDERFUL evening of fun, and shrieking and crawling fast all around the place playing with Dy lan!! He really seemed to feel a lot better. The combo of those 2 drugs really works wonders!! I hope Roy can handle it OK tomorrow with me working. I hope the baby feels ok with that tooth coming in!
Roy made a security gate for the top of the stairs out our back door. Thank goodness. He made a REAL NICE one and will finish welding it and then will spray paint it black and it will look like it was made for our balcony!! What a great idea he had. Then we will need some chicken wire or something to go around the rest of the balcony preventing Robert from going thru any of the railing. *sigh* that child is just becoming more and more a danger to himself.
Since I’ve been sick for a few days and off work for almost a week, I’ve managed to get a few things done on my To Do List. Not many, but some that have been there a while!! So that feels good. I really need to do a bit more, but raising Robert seems to take priority and then I end up taking forever to just do the simplest things!!
"Babies just fit in" my Mom had said, "they just fit in!!" Yeah, they really do!! Amazing how it works out!
Oh no!!! Poor Robert!! 🙁 Miia had a little bit of redness in her ear about a week before we were due to fly back to Japan from the States and the doc only prescribed medication for her because of the flight. She said it was just a precaution because there’s not much you can do if an ear pops on the plane…. and I thought of all those hours of Miia screaming in a confined space and I said yes please to the medication. But that’s good that he didn’t get unnecessary medication. I seem to recall that if it’s viral, no medication should be given but if it’s bacterial, then they prescribe antibiotics? I always mix them up. Yay for Robert’s tooth!! 🙂 I think Miia’s getting her third one pretty soon, her top gum (front) feels a bit different. Thank goodness she loves having her teeth brushed, makes my life easier! 😀 How’s Robert with the toothbrush? Like it? Hate it?

RYN: Miia’s totally mini me – I didn’t get my first tooth till I was almost 13 months. It’s not only the teeth, she’s my 100% clone…. it’s almost scary, haha!! Joe got his first tooth around 6 months of age so Miia surely got my genes on that one. 🙂 I know a boy here on the base who had 8 teeth when he was about 7-8 months old I think. I nearly fainted when I heard that, haha! Oh no worries, I know you are busy with work and commuting and everything. And seriously, how many moms would choose to spend all their time online when they have a little one in the house? 🙂 I only get online when Joe’s home in the evenings/weekends or when Miia’s napping or when she’s at daycare. Joe’s home another few months, then gone 3 months, then home for a while and gone again 6-8 weeks. And that’s only this year! Then there’s next year… last one of this sea duty. In our next duty station, he won’t deploy at all, he’s home every night for 3 years. 🙂 Really looking forward to that! 🙂

Oh, forgot to say – Miia was 10.5 months when she got her first tooth, the second one came out just under two weeks ago.
