Trip to Indiana with Baby Robert

My letter to my husband sums up the beginning of our trip back home:

Hey Royal,

I just thought I’d type you a letter to tell you about our day.  First of all I’m glad that I packed a bag of warm milk ready to go for the ride to the airport, cuz sure enough, Robert got hungry as soon as we got settled in the van.  (and by the way, the van went straight to the airport – and I didn’t have to pay the higher fare!!)  Robert did real well in the airport, and slept a lot of the time before the plane took off.  He did need a diaper change when we finally got to our gate and so I took him into the women’s room.  There they had a changing area for the baby.  I used the one waterproof pad that I brought in my carry-on bag, and wouldn’t ya know it… he poopied liquid green poo all over it after his diaper was removed!!  So that couldn’t be used for the rest of the flight (the changing pad!)  What a little rapscallion!!

It was nice to take the stroller to the gate with the baby in his carseat attached to the stroller.  I got to tear down the stroller, and put it into a plastic bag that they gave me at the counter!  (it tore as soon as I started to put the stroller into it! duh!  But it was just a little tear, so it didn’t cause a problem.)

The flight ended up being totally full, so it was real nice that my dad got Robert his own seat on the plane!  Especially when he got fussy and wanted to knock his head around on my shoulder!  It was nice to be able to put him into his own seat and have a teeny bit of space.  The flight went well.  The baby slept off and on, and fussed a little bit, but not too much.  Changing him on my lap in the tiny space we had was a bit challenging, but luckily the guy next to me was pleasant enough and didn’t act like we were bothering him.  The next time I had to change him I squatted down on the floor in front of my (middle) seat and I gave Robert my seat to lie on and I changed him there.  Thank goodness he never did anything outside of his diaper on the flight!

I slept just a little tiny bit on the flight, but kept opening my eyes to check the baby.  I also didn’t want my mouth hanging open and weird noises and/or drool to be coming down in front of the other passengers!  So, needless to say, I should be very tired right now, but got a second wind so I could write to you.

When the plane landed (the baby slept thru it all) I found the stroller right outside the door of the plane where they put it right away.  THAT was nice.  So I got to wheel him to the bagage claim (far from the gate we landed at!)  First I stopped at the women’s restroom to change and nurse him.  Then I got to the baggage claim and my bag was already there.  So I met my Dad outside and we were off!

We ended up going to an Irish restaurant for something a bit more healthy than the McDonalds and the Taco Bell my parents were going to take me to.  We ate lightly as we were to have dinner with my grandma afterwards.  The drive home after our salads and soup went by really quickly with us chatting the whole way.  We got home and I got to change and nurse the baby again.  My dad went to pick up Grandma while my mom got the dinner going.  I was going to go get my Grandma myself, thereby giving myself some alone time so I could toke, but that didn’t happen.  And, subsequently, I never did find time to toke today.  (you foresaw that!)

My Grandma and Dad arrived and then my Dad wouldn’t let my little Grim come in to see the baby yet as he had to ready his video camera.  She ended up having to wait about 5 more minutes before he gave her the go-ahead to come in and see Robert.  Her eyes welled with tears as she approached him!  (of course I got it on video!)  She just loved him and said how beautiful he is!  My parents did too, saying how big he had gotten!  Robert was real bouncy and smiley and was laughing and interacting with everyone like crazy!  My mom borrowed an old bouncy seat and Robert just loves it.  His legs hang off this one at the knee so he wasn’t kicking any metal parts like he does on ours.  He really got excited and wild kicking up a storm on that thing!

*whoa!  a street cleaner just came around the cul-de-sac – and it’s after midnight!*

Anyway.  After Grim got her hands on the baby we sat down for dinner.  I’m so used to saying a prayer before dinner, that I prepared for one before we started eating.  I told my folks that I was used to saying a prayer before we eat, and they were all for that.  So I said a prayer and they all said amen and we ate!  After dinner we had a little dessert, visited a little more with Grandma, and then Dad took her back home.  She wants me to bring the baby by her place tomorrow so she can show all her friends.  I’m definitely going to try to do that for her.  Meanwhile my mom said she has people coming over tomorrow day and tomorrow night to see the baby.

After dinner was all over and Grandma left with dad, my mom and I got on her new laptop (and it’s very nice!)  I showed her the David Blaine Street Magic video on You Tube that had us all cracking up.  She loved it and wanted to show it to Dad when he got back. We also watched a funny comic named Jackie Mason who did a bit on Obama.  When it was over, my mom said she didn’t think she’d forward it to Lisa and Shannon as they’d get upset with her.  So I said I would forward it to them.  It’s real good.  Maybe you’d like to view it…so here’s the link:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZ5c6hxqXq4

After that I showed my mom a bit of Kevin Smith and we watched a bit more of David Blaine.  Then my Dad got real tired so we decided to call the night quits and my mom and dad hooked me up with everything I could possibly need (my mom told me where cereal, etc. was in case I was hungry in the night, and my dad made up my bed real nice.  Although he kept trying to talk me out of using the wonderful comforter that he put on the bed -saying it was too warm and I wouldn’t need it!  But I might use it so I kept it on the bed.  Now I have all my stuff up here in the room with me and Robert is on the bed with me.  Right

now he’s moving around, but I think he’s going to sleep real good tonight.
