A few details

I did receive some news on the work front: one of the positions I put in for is probably mine, but I haven’t been Gazetted yet and their Lordships at the Admiralty may refuse to confirm my commission, so to speak.

One of the other things has been confirmed, however. We are re-organizing the training structure at my company, and because most training facilities are understaffed the company has decided rather than trying to hire more people they will declare them fully staffed and cull the herd elsewhere. My facility was fully staffed prior to the re-organization. The Trainer II position (that’s me) is being eliminated and four more Trainer III positions (Blowhard and Silverback) are being created. The only trouble is there are five Trainer II’s at my facility because that was the structure, so one of us has to go. It will likely be me, regardless of what happens with the other job. The others all have special skill sets Boss Man finds useful: one of them met our Glorious Founder many years ago, one of them is a veteran, one of them is female, and the other one builds stuff. I take care of the electronics, and the simplest things I do seem to confound them (turning on the bluetooth so a tablet will mirror, pushing clearly labeled buttons on switchers to make monitors display the right material, updating passcodes when new ones come out), but in the end someone will be able to learn how to do these things, the other stuff not so much.

It has been a good run, but all good things must come to an end, and I’ve been unhappy for several months now. Hopefully something else will open up (or my other thing will be confirmed), but if not I’ll get an adequate severance package which will give me time to find something else, and push come to shove I’ll have money to make it until January and I can dump my 401(k) and have another whole tax year to pay it back before I get zapped. Coincidentally that’s about how long I could live off the balance if I go into “economy mode” with my expenses.
