Rebuilding n’ Love
So I’ve been rebuilding Forge and associated universe.
Today I broke new ground. Charon (where the city of Forge is located) is now a volcanic moon of a Jupiterlike planet (though the planet is about 2x larger). The day is 33 hours long. The "year" calculated by the orbit of the moon around the planet is actually 2 orbits, each of 132 days, yielding a total year or 264 days (which at normal earth hours would be about 365 days, so while the hours don’t equal up on the Earth calander, the years are a good rough approximation.) in a bi-year. There is a minor half year celebration, and then a major "new year" celebration on the 2nd orbit.
In addition, the day is split in two, with a 4 hour lunch/siesta starting at 15:00 through 19:00 (which encompasses high 16:33 (noon)). At this time, people catch up on REM under the cortical stimulator. This rest time is required by law. That and the drug patches which alter circadean rhythms allow humans to work on the 33 hour day without suffering mental, physical and emotional breakdown.
And did I mention the series of giant mirrors that focus and reflect down on the moon to enhance light from the planet so that there is a good approximation of normal daylight.
I am so in love.
