Dying a thousand deaths
This is the longest period of unemployment I have ever endured. The blessing has been that I have been paid through the summer, but my last paycheck came Tuesday. I have made application to at least 50 schools and snagged one f2f interview and three phone/skype interviews with failing results each time.
Waiting for my phone to ring is like dying a thousand deaths. Every little sound around the house that even remotely resembles my ringtone makes me jump.
I never know around here if I do anything right. Last night I didn’t soak the beans right. I was also reminded to keep the rear tires inflated on our white Yaris. I burned one of the pizzas the other night. I mowed last night and I never know if I probide enough cut grass to feed our male goats. If I were to ask about any of that stuff, though, I am sure to get the “moron” treatment. *sigh*
I dread waking up everyday and I dread going to bed every night.
It must be so difficult. Try to focus on just putting one foot in front of the other.

Good luck with finding another job. I’m assuming that you’re from the U.S., so with the large improvements in the country’s employment, I’m sure you’ll find something soon.
You, also, shouldn’t be so hard on yourself. I’m not sure if it’s your living situation, or if you’re thinking these things yourself, but try to adopt more positive thinking and don’t be afraid to ask questions and familiarize yourself with Google, when you feel like you can’t ask your questions to anyone else. I know you’re probably going through a hard time, and it’s probably easier said than done.

I am so sorry you’re going through this.
Sometimes all we can do is take on the day hour by hour even if we can’t do that minute by minute.
I wish your wife was more kind to you. You do not deserve this treatment!

What type of position are you seeking? I believe that you earlier wrote that you were in higher ed. Are you seeking teaching or administration at the college/university level?
@ipsofacto Administration
@skd0617 I am a retired administrator EdD in School Leadership and Policy Analysis ie central office/superintendency public schools.
@ipsofacto I have been a division chair and an academic dean. I went back to a specific teaching position because it was my “dream job.” It turned out to be a nightmare so I would like to get back into administration or student services.
