Trying new things

Wow, it’s been five days since my last post!  But my 12 and 14-year-old step-daughters are here and we’ve been having some late, late nights.  Too late, actually, and they had totally screwed up my sleep schedule and I was staying up all night and sleeping all day.  So the night before last I said that’s it, I’m staying up all night tonight and then tomorrow night (which was last night) I’ll be ready for bed…..and boy, was I ever!  All three of us stayed up all night, then in the morning we got dressed, took the garbage out, piled in the car and ran some errands, then went blackberry picking.  I looooooove blackberries!  It was something new and even though we didn’t spend a whole lot of time picking (because I’m the only one that eats them), it was fun.  It was actually me and Sera who did the picking because on the car ride to the orchard Michaela fell asleep and didn’t want to wake up so I let her keep snoozing in the car while Sera and I picked.  After we were done berry picking we headed home and stopped at a farmer’s market on the way.  This place was HUGE!  I got some various fruits and veggies, including some avocados, because another new thing I’m going to try is I’m going to make homemade guacamole this weekend.  A lady at the farmer’s market told me what she puts in hers and it sounds easy enough that hopefully not even I can screw it up…..we’ll see. LOL.

So after that bit of running around we headed home, where both girls promptly collapsed on the couch and loveseat and fell asleep.  I made myself a veggie burger for lunch (not too terrible if you dress them up), then waited an hour or so for my food to settle before getting dressed in my gym clothes and headingd to the gym.  I’m telling you, I was running on fumes by this point, but I did my whole routine, which is elliptical, weights, crunches, then treadmill.  When I got home I showered, made some dinner, then forced myself to stay awake until 9 p.m. because I didn’t want to go to bed at 7 p.m. and then wake up at 3 a.m.  I have to say, I was never so glad to see 9 p.m. in my life!  I would’ve skipped to bed if I hadn’t been so exhausted.  And even though I did have to get up twice in the night to tinkle, I still slept good….yay!

So today I was up at a respectable 8 a.m. and made myself some breakfast, then got on the computer.  Today’s plan is to clean up the kitchen, do some laundry, work out, and then I have a Weight Watchers meeting tonight at 5:45 p.m.  If I haven’t lost any weight I am going to go postal, because I have been being really good (except for Sunday night when I had a craving for a cheddar brat and gave in).  I find myself getting so frustrated lately because it seems like despite all my working out and eating better, nothing is happening!  Yes, I’ve lost five pounds, but I’ve been working out for six weeks now!!  The only reason I haven’t said screw this is because all this exercise has helped my diabetes and other issues big time!  But damn, I want to see results in my weight as well!  Hopefully adding Weight Watchers into the mix will help…..we’ll find out tonight.

T and I took the girls to see Despicable Me on Saturday and OMG, is that the cutest movie!!  I highly recommend seeing it, even if you don’t have kids.  It was adorable, and we all really enjoyed it.  And while T and the girls got their regular movie popcorn, I was a good girl and popped two small bags of 100 calorie kettle corn here at home and smuggled it into the theater in my purse.  The only thing I got from the concession stand was a diet soda.

After the movie we went to Applebee’s and I got a half order of the California Shrimp salad….I think that’s what it was called.  Anyway, it was really good!  Unfortunately, I also had some of the appetizers that T ordered, so that put me over my points limit for the day, but I did go and work out later that night.  The lady at WW hasn’t told me yet how many extra points I’m allowed on the days I work out.  We’re supposed to go over that tonight.

So I called the Department of Unemployment yesterday and while Congress did pass the extension for unemployment benefits, nobody knows when it’ll start up again.  Something about the office where my claim is filed having to wait for a letter telling them to start up the benefits again or some crap like that.  So I have to keep certifying every two weeks and if I don’t get a check a week from today, which is when the next one would have come if there hadn’t been all this b.s. going on with Congress, then I’ll just have to wait until the benefits get reinstated and then the first check I receive will have back pay on it.  Which is fine and dandy, but if that happens then it looks like the Washington trip will have to be postponed until October.  And that’s not so terrible, really….it’ll give me and R a little more time to save up some spending money, and give R a little more time to feel better.  She hasn’t been having such a great time since her surgery and I hate it that she’s feeling so horrible!  I hope when she goes to see her doctors tomorrow one of them can do something for her as far as the pain she’s having.

Speaking of doctors, I have a doc appointment this Friday.  Just a two-week follow-up, but he’ll probably draw blood again.  Oh yay.  Nothing new there.  But he and I are going to talk about all the trouble I’m having sleeping lately and I’m hoping he’ll give me something for it.

I finally heard from my son this past weekend…WOO HOO!!!  The ship was back in Hawaii for about five days after being out at sea for 22 days.  It was so good to hear from him again!  But the ship left Hawaii today and they’re headed back to their home port of Everett, WA and it’s going to take them a couple of weeks to get there, so no contact again until they reach Washington…*sigh*  🙁  I miss that kid so much.  But his girlfriend is going to visit him at the end of August and he is sooooo looking forward to it….they both are!  I’m glad they get to see each other again because he hasn’t seen her since May and I know they are missing each other like crazy.  She is such a sweet girl.  We talk all the time on Facebook and I am really looking forward to meeting her in person over the holidays.

Well, I guess it’s time to really start my day.  First I’m going to call my dad and stepmom and see how they’re doing, then I think I’ll get dressed and head to the gym.  I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!!  God bless!

I’m so glad you were finally able to get a good night’s sleep. If only I could. LOL These damn pains are still waking me every two hours. Lord, how I wish they’d stop. The berry picking sounds like fun, even if you didn’t do it for very long. I miss the days when Mom and I would go strawberry picking in Bristol, and then she’d take me and Bob to go pick our own sweet corn, too. Sometimes we’d sit there and eat it right off the uncooked cob, it was so good.
