Naked and Afraid

I finally got the floorboards sanded down this weekend. It’s not properly finished because I need to go round the edges by hand and then fill and varnish. But I have stripped off all the paint and crap from the boards and we’re ready to go. I feel like I have worked hard this weekend. It wasn’t nearly as messy as I thought it would be. The sander had a vacuum attachment and it sucked up nearly all the dust. So that’s plastering and floor done now.

I was late for work this morning because I had to return the sanding machine. I don’t care though because my boss is away on holiday.

Did you watch “Naked and Afraid” on Discovery the other night? Actually, I think it’s already been shown in the US. All reality tv should be like this. They just drop two naked people into the jungle and leave them there to survive for three weeks. There were snakes all over the place, and angry monkeys. The guy lost 20 kg in three weeks, and the woman lost 12 kg. The producer nearly died from a snake bite. I think I will watch again next week. And yes, I only watched it because it had “naked” in the title.

At some point the the climate scientists are going to have to admit they have not got the slightest scrap of evidence to show that the climate is changing. I don’t want to sound like a loony denier, but it’s getting more and more difficult to take climate science seriously when none of the models are shown to be reliable, and one prediction after another is shown to be wildly wrong.

Here is a report from the Telegraph last week. Apparently Arctic ice is covering 60% more sea than last year; something which no climate model managed to predict. In fact, this comes just six years after climate models confidently predicted that Arctic summers would likely be ice free by 2013. As recently as 2009 models were still predicting ice free Arctic summers by the end of this decade.

Here is an article that caused much discussion last week in my office, some of it quite animated. Apparently a minister at the Truth Ministries Holiness Church refused to marry a couple because the bride’s dress was too sexy. I wish I knew exactly where this church was, but the report doesn’t make it clear. In any case it would appear that the pastor decided that he could not perform the ceremony with only two hours notice. He also refused to give his permission for another minister to step in. The couple apparently abandoned the wedding.

My opinion; who the hell is the minister to judge? If he really believes in god, why not let god sort it out with the lady when her time comes? Or is this about power, or the abuse thereof? Oddly, there were a few people in my office, even non christians, who agreed that the dress was inappropriate and the minister was right. I agree that the dress was not really something that one would expect to find in a church congregation, but the pastor ruined the most important day of this woman’s life. Was there a dress code shown to her? I’d sue.

Why would anyone still need a church wedding?
