Happy New Year and all that

I am not very enthusiastic about welcoming a new year.  2008 and was really truly awful but 2009 was not stellar, looked better than it actually was because 2008 had been so unpleasant.

I had a couple of weeks of holiday stress, getting ready for all the kids to be home, hosting son #3 and his gf, buying presents for 3 gfs this year for the first time.  Son #3 and gf were only here for a very few days and left on the 23rd, we do our family celebration on the solstice.  Since then things have been much calmer, my dh has taken the last 2 weeks off to use up vacation days and that has been very pleasant.

I have been struggling with an incipient cold for almost 2 weeks including too many sinus headaches:(  I have been making myself work on the endless baby blanket but can really only do a couple of rows a day without making my hands and wrists sore. I did allow myself to knit on a short blue scarf that I also have ongoing yesterday evening because it was a blue moon after all:)

Son #1’s partner taught him to knit on the train (they were 3 days on the train from winnipeg!!!) and he knit me a pair of fingerless mitts that I adore.

I did buy some sock yarn on sale at Michaels and I just bought 4 addi lace circ needles on ebay for knitting socks.  I am planning some tube socks to start with. 

It’s snowing right now and I am grateful that none of us has to get any where just now and that son #3 and gf are at her parents’ condo in NH so that on sunday they will only have a half day (or so depending on the weather) drive back to Montreal.

p.s. in late 2009 I bought son #2’s first gen iphone that he was no longer using.  He had gone back to using a blackberry.    My daughter’s dance school has free wifi and I am there 3 hours a week so I wanted something to use for that, my wonderful new mac laptop is simply too heavy for me to carry around on a regular basis.  I am using the iphone as an ipod touch and having a lot of fun with it, from keeping notes and an electronic book list to playing free games that I have downloaded (my daughter likes some of the games too, great for waiting around).
