Fucking goddamn, friends. They’re denying trans people passport renewals already. As dire as my predictions were, even I did not think this could happen this fast. I’ve never lived through the early stages of totalitarianism before.

So what do I do? What do a ton of us who haven’t had medical intervention do? Hiding, going birth stealth, seems so fucking cowardly. But what’s the alternative? Hope people actually act before it’s our turn to be cleansed? That’s a hell of an ask.

Bitter Pill

I’ve been thinking about this a lot. I’ve had a few students transition or start to transition in recent years. I think about how as an openly gay man I was finally feeling safe. Safe enough to put it on legal documents. Now they have those legal documents.

The real “okay, make plans now” moment will be the midterms. If we take the house — we’ll be okay-ish. If not, get things sorted to either move to the coasts or leave the country. In the meantime, please be safe. Please do everything you can to get people to vote.
