Guess it had to go somewhere…

You’ve heard all about the snow over the last couple of weeks. Well in another mother nature turn, we now have a heat wave. Okay, maybe it just feels that way but it is above freezing and everything is starting to melt. Great right? Well not quite. Sunday morning my daughters came down to tell me about a problem in my bedroom. Sure enough, the ceiling plaster was bubbled in two spots and dripping water in my side of the bed. It must have started not too long before and things weren’t too wet. I quickly got some tupperware to catch the rest. We also moved the bed about 2 feet  which was an interesting challenge since it is a king sized bed with heavy wood posts. Little narrow getting to our bathroom now but this is just temporary.

This is the second time this has happend in a year. the first was during what seemed like a monsoon with gale winds. You can tell by the plaster that the water was running down a support beam for the roof and these two spots were where the water pooled. I thought we could have had some hail damage from earlier in the year but could not see an problems in the space up there. This time I really started questioning it.

Since there are a few small holes now in the plaster, I squeezed out a bit of the water. Afterward we looked out our builder to find out how long the roof was covered under warranty. Wouldn’t you know it… 4 years. We will have been there 5 in a few months. Oh well, this is why you have home owners insurance. L called them and I guess an adjuster came out yesterday. He didn’t see any damage to the roof but instead found ice in the ventilation near that area. He believes that the water came as the ice started melting. I can buy that. He wants us to get some estimates and we’ll go from there. Overall good news, if not a little agravating.

Ugh, I obsess about things like that happening all of the time. We went with a builder (MI Homes) and I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone! (hopefully you don’t have them too…lol) We’ve been in our house for about a year and a half, and we’ve had nothing but problems arise. Granted they’re usually minor, but it’s like the longer we’re there, the more we find and it IS aggravating. For instance,

(I’m sure you’re REALLY interested in hearing this…lol), a piece of our weather stripping on our front door is falling off, and I can now see light through the door where it closes. Previously we had them ‘finish the job’ by putting the rest of the screws in our front door knob because they ‘forgot’. Our fan in the master bath quit working, and we had to get a new switch…and on removing the

vent, we found that they must have hooked the vent up while the ceiling was still drying!! Dumbasses! Then of course there is the crappy paint job, a ceiling fan that they didn’t mount right so it almost fell out of the ceiling on top of us, etc., etc. The main reason I wanted a new house was so we wouldn’t have to deal with this kinda crap for a while. HA! Good luck w/ your ceiling! 🙂
