The Throw Away Girl
I see her every day. Sometimes she is behind the cash register, sometimes in her car waiting for the light to turn green, sometimes she is having dinner with her family. Her face changes, but it is the same girl. The one who was betrayed, the one who roams through life carrying her heart on a broken cross. Although she keeps moving, she never moves forward. She seems alive, but if you know what to look for, you see that she is a ghost, forever haunted by a long ago lover who drank his fill of her affections before tossing her aside. It’s the same story every time. The phantom prince cast his spell, burned his smile into her mind, then disappeared like a wisp of smoke. Sometimes she isn’t even sure if he was real. Time has tried to fade him away, but she guards her memory of him with a desperate resolve.
It’s not just one girl, there are many who have that same look, that look that exposes itself in flashes, just enough to reveal a silent flame that flickers in the deep past. I wonder if the men they are now with ever catch a glimpse of that flame. I wonder if new love will ever free these girls from old love.
I wonder if loving a throw away girl is worth taking the risk of having her throw me away.
I know the answer to that question…maybe someday…I will understand it.
Take care.
OMG – that’s ME…how friggin’ pathetic.

I wonder how many men out there wish they could turn back the hands of time…how many would have done things differently…how many would have held onto that one special girl instead of throwing her away. I think at one point in our lives, we all become a ‘throw away girl’. Your writing is wonderful! =)

What a sad entry. I wonder what the redemption of the Throw Away Girl would look like? I wonder what it would take.

Terrific and emotive. I think all of us have had the feeling that, to one person we care about, we are disposable. Its something you never forget, and its something I pray I never make anyone feel.

This throw away girl wants you to know its worth the risk. Because if you can get through to girls like us, you’ll never have to worry about us throwing you away. We guard our heros with our whole hearts. Besides, we’d never do to another whats been done to us because we know how bad it feels.

We are so hard on people. So hard. Sometimes the guy who throws her away is not evil or mean or bad-hearted. Sometimes he’s just as lost. I think, mostly. And he cannot help what he must do to her when he realizes he’s made a mistake. We are so hard on people, labeling them. We all walk away at some point, from something. And sometimes, we should.
