Horizons(conclusion)

If you ever find yourself passing through Chamberstown, Virginia, take a little time to do some sightseeing. It is a quiet little town that offers visitors a comforting place to step back from the super-sonic, digitized pace of today’s world. If you are so inclined, I would recommend taking an evening stroll down Lillie Avenue, where the stars play in the high branches of the elms. Near the end of Lillie Avenue you can’t help but notice the framed house that is painted as if by an artist. The colors blend into one another creating a harmonious picture, reflecting the story of those who live inside.

It is the story of Lee and Michelle, two travelers who no longer search the distant skyline for their dreams. They have finally found contentment. He makes a good living from his paintings and she is now the girl’s councilor at the local high school. They have a house full of kids that you’ll see playing across the street in their beloved aunt Betty’s yard. In the middle of the pack of kids you’ll see an elderly lady named Blanche who teaches the kids how to spit, shoot slingshots, and above all, how to live life without fear.

There are other stories in this historic town, but I like this one the best. It reminds me that life never gives up on you as long as you never give up on life. That the rewards of the struggle can be as sweet tasting as a slice of fresh, homemade peach cobbler.

Strive ever for the distant horizon…your destiny may lie just beyond.

Take care.
