Running rut + drunken outings
UGH – I hate being in a running rut. I was doing so well for about 2 months of running approximately 22-24 miles a week. I finished a half marathon last Saturday (June 2nd) – and have ran only five miles since. I just haven’t been able to get back in the swing of things! I’m not necessarily super mad at myself – my next half marathon isn’t until the end of July, but still, I feel SO much better when I run. I am a more well-rounded person!
One thing though, is I’m not sure if any of you can relate – but I started a new job that is somewhat nerve-wracking, as in, for the next three months, we will be put on the spot constantly. To be completely honest with you – it’s SO good for me. I was so scared of this next step in my life but I knew that it would be better to push myself out of my comfort zone. So far, I’m right! Regardless – it’s tense, and stressful. You know how when you get home and you’re just… exhausted? Because you’re like, tense? And nervous? That’s how I am… it’s not that bad, really, I’m making it seem worse than it is, but it has definitely affected my daily life.
It is going well; however, and I am SO ready for these next three months of ramping to be done!
I need to cut myself a little slack – I’m still 10-15 pounds less than I was last July, and am in all-around good shape. I also do SO much better when I run in the morning… I KNOW that when I don’t, I’m just going to be worthless in the evening, lol. It’s fine… I’ll start back up, *tomorrow*. 😉
To move onto the drunken outings of this post… well, basically Saturday was my birthday, and Friday, a group of me and my coworkers all went out for a drink after work. Needless to say, a drink turned into like 9 shots and me PUKING in the bar and upstairs in my office. YUP. What a win! The thing about it is, I’m the “responsible” one. “Elle would NEVER do that.” Well dammit, I f-ing did. LOL.
Here’s the messed up thing… there’s a guy on my team, and he was on my former team as well before we both were recently promoted. If I had to guess, this guy (we’ll call him Jack) – has a crush on me. I know, I know, I’m married, but I’ll be DAMNED if I don’t attract men being married. I think it’s a confidence thing? Not sure.
And not that it matters – but Jack is the hottie in the office. OF COURSE. I’m married but I’m human, too! He’s a major looker.
Anyway – I’m pretty sure, almost positive that I called Jack out. And I VAGUELY remember him admitting that he had a crush on me! I had asked me to come outside with me, and by this point I was f-ing wasted, I barely remember, but I do have shadow visions of this conversation. So today, naturally, I decide to confront him in a nice way – more like, I’m so sorry that I was so drunk and made some inappropriate comments? LOL.
And he said I didn’t… at all… he completely denied it. Also, he was SUPER sweet about it. Like, “oh, don’t worry Elle, it happens to be the best of us, it’s happened to me several times… blah blah”. It confirmed two things: 1) Yes, he does like me, so I need to hard core watch that. 2) He DENIED admitting that to me – probably better than having a full-on sober conversation. 3) Okay, so there’s 3 things – no more drunken episodes involving coworkers!
I felt so much better about chatting with him in person but it didn’t settle my suspicions at all. Again – something I’ll have to be weary of. And keep an eye on.
Curious to hear your thoughts, friends?! Jack and I have a great working friendship and relationship… or so, I thought. :/
Anyway – tonight, will get a good sleep and focus on getting up in the morning to run. I always feel so much better and it will be good to get back in the swing of it!
Thanks for listening – I really needed this!
Much love,
Elle
Good luck with the new gig, changes in responsibility are good for us sometimes!

Saw you on the front page.
Re the crush, just keep an eye on it. If he’s sober denying that he has a crush, then chances are he’ll respect that you’re married and try to keep it under wraps for the sake of work/friendship. Avoid hanging out with him alone if you can – that’s probably the safest! I’ve had this before with coworkers and it can be awkward.
