the one to create all others
the lathe
called the machine with which you can build all others,
in the right hands so very true
a friend found a partial pipe quonset hut style greenhouse guess who got the job of making it whole,..
i needed a pipe connector, (30 actually), that was just 1/16 of an inch smaller than a 3/4 inch piece of steel pipe,.. couldn’t find any, so had to make them, my big lathe is in pieces awaiting the move,..so the baby got to do the job, it was just barely big enough, but it did it,..a whole day standing in front of that process takes the luster off the whole machine shop mystique,..
slowly getting moved,.
I remember Quonset huts. My Great Grandmother used to live next to one, and I actually looked at one when I was house hunting back in the 80’s… Didn’t know they were still around… ~M

The photo is amazing, capturing what it takes to create beautiful things. A whole day of standing is hard work, not pretty either , but you created wonderful things

You remind me of my Dad and two of my brothers;inventive, creative, energetic. Isn`t a lathe used for wood turning. The brother does a lot of that. Fabulous stuff.

Repetition does have it’s limitations. Cool you have the toys!

Creation is a beautiful act. And that is a beautiful tool

ryn: I don’t want to outright discourage her at this point. I’m actually happy that she is planning to go to college (if she actually is). Its a fight we’ve been having for the last two years. I’m pretty sure she wont be an architect. Even if she is actually planning that now and not bluffing, most kids change their minds about their career goals in the first 2 yrs of college. I’ll keep my mouth

shut but just not budge on paying for that class. If she really is motivated, then she will go to college next year. If not, then she will lose $400 and it will be a lesson learned. If her father decides to give her the money I won’t be happy about it but at least its not MY money lost.

Oy. Good for you on helping – just imagine what the greenhouse will help create! Hope the move goes smoothly. Or the remainder of it, anyways.

Quonset huts are alive and well in Canada.
