Confronting Nicki
It was in the same night Lestat gave me the Dark Gift that I learned exactly what I was. I could only go out at night, I must sleep in a coffin or some other dark place that sunlight couldn’t touch and drink the blood of mortals. At first it seemed so grotesque, but in his teachings he brought me reassurance that it would all be well. For the first time I saw the world in a new light and I loved it. I could hear and see things no mere mortal could imagine. All my thanks and adoration went to my maker, my dearest Lestat de Lioncourt. The vampire in a mortal cloak he was what I call my dark angel.
Though everything seemed well it was not, and Nicki was sulking as he walked in the door after storming out when Lestat took me. Lestat and I were sitting by the fireplace and he was reading a book of poems to me. Only two hours had passed since he had made me and we went together on my first hunt. My blood boiled in excitement as Lestat took his arm in mine and we walked down the darkened streets seeking out our prey. My call was a sickly old woman, we found her through the window of her small cottage sitting by the fire petting her sleeping feline. Thoughts ran through my mind as I sank into the darkness watching her as Lestat managed to get us quietly inside the small cottage. Only the cat heard me as I moved toward them. The yellow of its eyes locked on my movement and a soft hiss of warning as I approached from behind. The old woman never had a chance as I sank my hungry fangs inside that warm flesh and pulsing vein. The cat leapt away as her body went limp and she somewhat tried to struggle against me. Her fragile body felt as if it may break in half as i clutched her too me.
Images of old memories she had kept locked away flooded my brain and I could hear her voice in my head now. Startled I jumped back throwing her dying body to the floor as she gasped for air choking. Stumbling back into the shadows trembling Lestat rushed to my side and I immediately threw myself into his arms slightly terrified at what I had experienced. “It’s all right my dear, don’t be frightened. It’s just blood memories from your victim.” he said quietly holding me close and petting my hair. Turning slowly my head up to him he smiled and bent down to me. Unsure what to expect I shut my eyes, it was then I felt the warmth and wetness of his tongue touch my lips. I realized then he was licking the blood from my lips. Once he pulled back I looked up into his face and he smirked “After the heart stops, so must you..we vampires cannot drink dead blood..” Cocking my head to the side he pushed a thought inside my mind and I heard him whisper “Poison” without speaking aloud and I gave him a nod saying I understood.
With that we continued on our hunt before going back to the little house to find Nicki in a sullen rage tearing things apart and roaring. As we entered the house everything looked as if a monster had demolished everything in sight. “How could you betray me!” roared Nicki’s voice out of the dark hall and it rang on “You choose that little wench over me Lestat?” Anger flushed over my cheeks and I started to step forward but Lestat stopped me. “How dare you Nicholas de Lenfent..I am entitled to my companions just as you are!” Lestat spat back at him angerily. Suddenly without warning Nickie shook his head and snarled at me with fierce speed he came at him his hand clutched around my neck hard pinning me against the wall. Reacting swiftly Lestat grabbed him and started to pull him back as Nicki looked deep into my eyes with rage. “My friend..you can’t have him!”
With that said Lestat angrily tossed him aside on the hard floor with a crash into the debris.”You selfish little coward Nicholas! you attack an innocent woman over your own jealousy? I should have left you with Armand’s coven and let them have their sadistic ways with you.” growled Lestat his fangs bared at Nickie now as he pulled himself up to stand face to face with him.”Why Lestat..why do we need her..?” Nicki growled defensively his eyes meeting mine from behind Lestat. “Why did you need Eleni and not me? Wasn’t it you who rejected me as your maker at first?” Lestat growled in a low malicious voice. Taking all he could handle of this scene Lestat finally roared “I NEED HER DAMMIT NICKI!! GET OUT!” I jumped at the monster like tone in Lestat’s once soft voice. Giving me a warning hiss he moved back and turned to exit the house. Before he was even completely out side he turned and looked at me over his shoulder and said coldly “This isn’t over girl..”
“OUT!” Lestat roared again throwing him out into the dark street. My whole body was trembling again with fear. I knew Nicki was more experienced and stronger than I was in my vampiric being. Lestat must have sensed it and he was at my side instantly. “I meant what I said Raven..I have been watching you in the theater..Nicki knew this..” His voice was soft and apologetic. “What are you playing at Lestat de Lioncourt?” I asked looking into his blue eyes for an answer. “I wish to keep you..If you’ll have me..” Not knowing what to say and sort of flustered all I could will myself to do was nod as he pulled me into his cold embrace.
