Work work work.

I feel like all I do is work sometimes.  I know it’s not true, but I was at work for 11.5 hours yesterday, so it’s hard to trick me into believing otherwise right now.

And the thing is… I wouldn’t quit if you asked me to.  I like my job, to a degree, and I love the people I work with.  You couldn’t ever get better bosses than Sally and Adam, and even though I’m working a lot I try not to complain because I know we’re just understaffed and only some of us are willing/able to pick up the slack (me, Cory, Mike, Trent).

Our kitchen manager, Pat, is a really great guy, but he resigned the manager position the other day and almost walked out because of our regional manager – the guy sent back his sandwich SEVEN TIMES.  And there was really nothing WRONG with it.

The restaurant is closing for 4 whole days, from 8 pm on August 2nd to 6 am on August 7th… and I have no idea what I’m going to do with myself for that long.  We’re going through a hardcore remodel, so not only will I have gone crazy with boredom over those 4 days but my place of work will look EXTRAORDINARILY different.  It’s going to take me a while to be okay with this.

So anyway, there’s more to my life than Perkins, I swear.

I also work as a personal assistant to Pat Rothfuss, after all.

We looked at more houses on Sunday afternoon, and we seriously had to talk Pat out of a few that were hardcoare fixer-uppers if he were to be buying them at all.  The last one we looked at may have been the best we’ve seen so far, although there were a few small issuses, like the fact that there wasn’t any definite room for Pat to put up his startlingly-large chalkboard he owns and is rather fond of using.  He managed to say "I’ll have to think about it" about six or seven times before we even left the property.

So things are starting to work out, and we’re looking at more next Tuesday.  After we looked at houses, Pat and Sarah took Nathan and me out to dinner and we hung out and talked for a couple of hours.  It was actually kinda awesome – Pat and Sarah could be just people we hang out with on a regular basis, they’re great to talk to and amazingly funny and have a lot of the same interests and viewpoints as us.  It was ridiculously fun for hanging out with my "boss."

But I’ve still got quite a few houses we could possibly look at, and I need to re-review the listings first – which took me almost 8 hours the first time around, so who knows what’ll happen this time.

Clearly I work too much, because I had a dream about Adam, my assistant manager at Perkins, proposing to me the other night.  When he asked me, I laughed but he didn’t, and I felt super bad.  Then I told him I couldn’t marry him, because he was married to Perkins, and he kinda made a face that was like "yeah…." and shrugged.  It made me laugh when I woke up.

Audrey told me about a drink she had the other night at a bar that was spiced rum and orange juice, and that it tasted kinda like a dreamsicle… and I just made myself some and she wasn’t kidding.  I’ve already had 2 tonight, and if it wasn’t for the fact that I’m starting to zone out and fall asleep already, I’d probably make another 🙂

Two more days of work until I get to go home for the weekend 🙂
