Cancer Of The American Road

You know what the cancer of the American road is?  The cancer of the American road is any vehicle with license plates from Baja California or anywhere in Mexico.  Living in Southern California and having grown up in San Diego, I’ve seen more than my fair share of raggedy cars with the Baja California plates.  Not all cars from Baja are raggedy but most of them have some kind of major visible problem, whether it’s a ridiculous amount of smog and/or smoke coming out from the tailpipe or anywhere else under the vehicle or multi-colored panels along the frame of the car.  My mother used to tell me to steer clear of any vehicle that has Baja plates for a great number of them are driven by uninsured motorists.  The closer you get to the border, the more and more these vehicles become prevalent.  I really never spent a great deal of my time anywhere near the Mexican border or south of the Interstate 8 freeway anyway, so it was never really a problem for me.  Even to this day, I still keep my mother’s words in mind and I always avoid driving next to a car with the Baja California plates.  You just never know what they’re going to do.  Are they going to swerve, as they attempt to pick up the open cerveza they dropped?  Will they lose their focus on the road as they reach over to the back seat to smack the living crap out of one of their several children?  Will one of their doors and any other parts of their car fly off, as they approach speeds in excess of 40 MPH?  Will the Saran Wrap they sometimes use as a temporary window suddenly come undone?  You just never know what they’re going to do, or even if their vehicle is going to stay in one piece.  I’ve never known anyone who intentionally drove a car with Baja plates and I plan to keep it that way.  I don’t know where you might live, but regardless of where you call home, don’t ever forget the cancer of the American road.  Do whatever you can to make sure that you aren’t driving too close to one of them, should you ever see them on the freeway or on any paved roadway.  Protect yourself, your loved ones, and the vehicle you drive.  Don’t become another statistic.  Don’t drive next to vehicles from Baja California or Mexico.  The life you save…could be your own.
