American Flag: Extra Crispy?

I was nosing around this site yesterday and I stumbled across someone’s diary where they had written an entry suggesting that we Americans celebrate Independence Day by burning the American flag on the sides of the country’s interstates, in an effort to protest the government and those officials who are currently in charge of keeping this country afloat.  I’m not really big on politics, nor do I place a lot of thought or consideration into what President Bush and his panel are doing.  As long as I’m working, eating, and living, I’m pretty content anyway.  Maybe I ought to be more interested in following how our country is being run but frankly, I just don’t care enough to do so.  I’ve got my own problems to worry about as it is.  Anyway, I’m just wondering why in the hell do people find it necessary to celebrate things by breaking shit and by being destructive?  Do you know how retarded that is?  Breaking shit, burning things, and just being destructive?  I don’t care if it is legal to burn the American flag.  Just because you CAN do something doesn’t necessarily mean that you ought to.  I’m a grown damn man, for Christ’s sake.  I’m not burning anything today and there’s a good chance I won’t be burning anything tomorrow.

i burned my dinner last night. i agree, burning is not a good thing. did you know that the acceptable way to “retire” an old, worn American flag is to burn it? much more dignified that chucking it in the garbage, i suppose. maybe we could find a way to get those protesters to burn old flags, because then they’d actually be doing something useful while they make a … point?
