Was Jesus a Fraud (Da Vinci Code) Part 2

Matthew 16:13-20:

16:13  When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?

16:14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

16:15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

16:20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.

You’ve got to be kidding me. IV (InterVarsity) is using this passage as evidence for Jesus?  We have evidence from the Bible itself that the crowds of the day easily believed that a guy walking around was some other guy risen from the dead. John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah… I mean, Jesus wasn’t even trying to convince people he was someone else, this was the crowd’s own doing. The people of antiquity definitely had a different notion of how weird it would be for a person to be risen from the dead.

Acts 5:33-39:

5:33  When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.

5:34 Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;

5:35 And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.

5:36 For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.

5:37 After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.

5:38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:

5:39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

Matthew 27:37:

27:37  And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

Really

? The sign above Jesus’ head on the cross is eye witness evidence of the salvific identity of Christ?

To be continued… (I’m on page 7 of 12 pages of notes).  It feels good to finally write something substantial again…

Oh, and if you’re looking into putting ads on your own diary, go ahead and set it up. If you have any questions about how to do it, I can help.

Wow, that all sounds awfully heavy. And here I was just thinking that The DaVinci Code would be a bad movie simply because the book was badly written. Little did I know.

Ugh.
