God is our Judge, or are we His?

“God is our Judge.
We are not His judge.”

If we can’t “judge” god, then how can anyone say that God is Good? You can’t, so following God, is no longer a moral choice. [A Thinking BUM]

Bum: If one accepts the thesis that God is the foundation of reality, it’s not a hard leap to make to believe also that He is the foundation of morality. Thus, following God becomes the very definition of a moral choice. [MidnightBlues24]

“Bum: If one accepts the thesis that God is the foundation of reality….”

But how would we know that? Because He told us? Let’s say He told us that…why should we believe Him? Because He doesn’t lie? Because He’s moral? Or have we come full circle yet? [A Thinking BUM]

RYN: That whole “foundation of reality” thing is part and parcel with this whole Supreme Deity business. Monotheism doesn’t really work without that. It’s rather broad if you want it to get into why God exists in the first place, but suffice it to say that it’s a bit of a logical contradiction to say that a Supreme Deity exists without being, well, supreme.  We’re talking about moral philosophy/theology here, not whether God exists in the first place. [MidnightBlues24]

Yeah, we’re talking about the attributes of God, right? Whether He is good, or all-good, or how powerful he is, etc. So you think that He’s Good, but you haven’t judged Him to be Good.

The number of assumptions you make is staggering given the economy of words you’ve used.

So let’s say that something called “God” exists.

“If one accepts that God is the foundation of reality, then….He is the foundation of morality.”

Ok, so you’re saying that God is a creator-God.

Of the universe, or us? How would you know which he created (if either)?

Let’s say he created us (but not the universe).

How does that transpose that He is a good God?  What if God is evil and made us just for his own sadistic enjoyment? There’s nothing about being a creator that implies or even suggests that the creator is Good.

But you believe in a creator God – for some reason – who you also believe is a Good God – for some other reason.

“It’s rather broad if you want it to get into why God exists in the first place, but suffice it to say that it’s a bit of a logical contradiction to say that a Supreme Deity exists without being, well, supreme.”

Ok, you’re defining God to have attributes X, Y, Z, etc. Is there any justification that you have for saying that He has any of the attributes?

All-powerful? – What kind of demonstration would you need to see to be convinced that any entity is “all-powerful”?

All-good? – What kind of demonstration would you need to see to be convinced that any entity is all-good? A complete history of that entity’s actions? Well, if He’s all-powerful, He could easily convince anyone that He’s all-Good, regardless of whether he IS all-good.

All-knowing? Just kinda believe that because it sounds nice? Or have you been convinced that God knows everything – or is it everything that’s possible to know…or …

The creator?

“What if God is evil and made us just for his own sadistic enjoyment?” *shrug* Well… That’s why I play the Sims. So, I can see that happening. ;p
