Bloop Diary kerfuffle.

Left as a note on my “History Refresher” entry (On Bloopdiary), SuperZsa! wrote:

this was almost um… funny.

look into your history a little closer there bum. You may just find that this country WAS founded on God. Although we’ve strayed so far I can understand why isn’t hard to believe such a thing.

To which I responded in my entry and in her diary:

Sillly me, I thought that this country was founded on principles like “democracy” and as a “republic” – more based on ancient Rome than any sort of “God”.

In fact, I wonder if you can find a unique thing about the US founding that didn’t have its predecessor in Ancient Rome but was somehow mentioned by “God”. [A Thinking BUM]

But instead of backing up her claims and her patronizing attitude, she just deleted the note.

It’s strange to me when people come to my diary, and will challenge me in very general terms, like, “you know, you’re wrong…” but when asked, they refuse to elaborate.

A similar thing happened with Christian Constitutionalist a while back, if you remember.

Just kinda seems strange, people say, “This country is founded on God.” And you ask them to name a single founding principle that didn’t first occur in other governments, or even more specifically, find a single one that wasn’t embodied in ancient Rome, but was somehow from the Bible.

And all you get is a deafening silence. After a while, they start talking about it again…

I guess you won’t change an idiot’s mind if they ignore anyone that challenges them.

Never really thought of it that way.. If someone set out to kill themselves by let’s say slow acting poison.. in that moment you’ve already drank it, you’re going to die, but what if you regret it? I think at that point God would see what was going on, and maybe then that person could be forgiven.. but I dont’ know of too many people who would want to die from slow acting poison lol

Well, we do have roots in our justice system from the Judeo-Christian Ethic. Between than and the Roman Law, they played heavily into English Common Law, which we adopted in some volume as a basis for our own laws. I would not, however call the Constitution a Christian document. I’m with you, it simply isn’t.

Actually most of our common principles are routed in tribalism and even before that, common bonds in family structures. Much of what we are comes from basic needs to survive. Things like democracy, Religion, these come from common factors to continue a certain way of living that has grown from very basic roots. oh ya.. Democracy is a joke. Rome smartened up a long time ago.

I love when they can’t fight back though…like you’re so right that they have no action to take besides ignoring you… -Jen
