the humid (k)night

Yesterday I went to see my brother F in Brooklyn. I left about an hour later than I normally did when I go drive to him, so of course I ran into some traffic. For the first time, I had some trouble finding a parking spot next to his block. F is doing well – he got two kittens a few months ago from N. Even though they are not together anymore, they are still friends. Lukas is the shy one of the two. Simone is a little more comfortable and for sure the more dominant. They’re grown quite a bit since I last saw them, though Lukas is still skinny. When I visited yesterday, the two cats were more active and playful, so that was fun. They’re still a little skittish – Lukas is still a little more shy of the two. Whenever I sneezed, the cats became startled. I had a feeling my allergies would kick in eventually from visiting them. As you can imagine, they’re jumping all over the place, so nothing in F’s apartment was safe.

We hung out for a while, which was fun. I told him about my baby-sitting duty last weekend for my nephew and niece. CC is about 8 or 9 months by now…and looking healthy and happy. T is still growing, but still not too adventurous as far as food goes. He tried to teach me how to play the Pokemon card game – I think a few more times and I’ll get the hang of it. F’s AC unit was working – as long as you sat within five feet of it. For the rest of the apartment, one of those large square floor fans was set up. Naturally, he sat closest to the fan. So inside his apartment was not much better than outside. I was amused though that he seemed to sweat more easily than I did.

Anyway, we did go see “The Dark Knight”. We met up with some of his friends at a theater in Manhattan – P and Ci. The last time I saw them was about a year ago (maybe more) when they hosted a game night for a bunch of friends. It was pretty cool to get reacquainted. As for the movie, I really enjoyed it – probably one of the best I’d seen in a while. Yeah, I’d say it actually lived up to the hype and press. Without giving away any spoilers, the writing and story were incredibly good. And yes, Heath has a commanding presence on the screen – which is great and sad at the same time. This one will be tough to top if they decide to do a sequel.

After the movie, we ate dinner at a nearby restaurant, talking about the movie and catching up. By the time we took the subway back to F’s, it was getting late, so I just drove back home. All in all, not a bad day.
