CC’s baptism

Yesterday was a special day for my niece, her baptism. Though in truth, she won’t remember much of it, if at all. She was there and the events did happen. All her young mind at the time was willing to do was let her mother know when she got uncomfortable. Maybe in time she will understand the significance of it, but she won’t have the emotional attachment like she would of something like her first kiss, or maybe even the day she finishes school.

The day itself began early – much earlier than I hoped I could get away with. However, there was that three or so hour drive to AA and J’s church and a mid morning schedule. I drove my parents (mainly because I was the only one who knew how to get to my brother’s place) and picked up Aunt V on the way. A quick stop at Mc’d’s helped. So did the light traffic and the cooperative weather. In fact, we ended up arriving early. Like way too early. So we hung out at a nearby deli for a while until it was time.

The ceremony itself was nice. AA and J were there with T. My younger brother F took the train in the night before to AA’s place. J’s parents were also there as well as a few of AA’s and J’s friends whom I met before yesterday. F and one of J’s friends, Michelle, served as the godparents – I already had my turn at being godparent (to T). CC bawled during the actual baptism. I was much too happy to capture it all on AA’s digicam.

A reception in the multipurpose room next door followed. We all got to pass the baby around (that sounds like a drinking game). I have to admit CC looked pretty cute. Her booties kept falling off though.

After we helped clean up the reception room, we headed to AA’s house. We relaxed, had some wine, and hung out for a few hours. T and Michelle’s kids spent most of their time in T’s room. The rest of us either sat around talking or watching tv. Eventually the kids wanted to play Guitar Hero, so we watched them play for a while. Andy, one of Michelle’s kids then challenged me to a guitar battle, so of course he chose a long song. Needless to say, he kicked my ass. We had some more fun with Guitar Hero before AA brought out the Wii, then it was virtual bowling the rest of the time – even my dad and Aunt V tried it. AA’s and J’s friends were pretty fun – we almost forgot that it was CC’s baptism party. By the time it was time for me to return back home, Michelle and her husband pretty much decided to get a Wii – but not before she beat him at bowling soundly.

By the time I got home last night, I was pretty much thanking god I had the day off today. Or maybe I should thank the presidents…or something like that. Anyway, my brain is a little fried, so excuse my less than stellar writing. I’m going back to bed.

The baptism sounded lovely…and passing the baby around a great glass of wine afterwards! 😉 Hope you enjoyed President’s day off…we all had to go back to school…to make up snow days. Bleh.

BTW…I just have to throw in that I am an expert…well an expert at medium to hard on Guitar Hero! I can kick the kids butts!
