Call me Coach

I just got back from two basketball games – I am wiped out. This is David’s last week of classes and he is at school, I guess preparing lectures or something, so I had all 3 kids. Wrestling Benjamin during the two games is the hard part.

Courtney won her game 30-6. She finally has a good coach this time and it is really showing. Not only did they score 30 points, but I think every girl on the team scored except Courtney. Courtney is not a big scorer. She is good on defense but timid on offense. So it wasn’t like our one good girl was running up the score.

Rebecca’s game on the other hand…man, her coach just sucks. These girls have no clue where to be on the court. The coach stands on the sidelines and yells "guard your girl" but they don’t know what that means! I have worked with Rebecca and she’s picked up some things from watching Courtney, but some of these girls are in la-la land.

Rebecca’s coach is going to be on vacation one week in July and needed a volunteer to coach the two games that week. I volunteered. I figured, I can’t be worse than she is!

Rebecca asked me, "Mom, do you know anything about basketball?" I said yes, and she said "Oh yeah from Dad." I said "No, from playing. I used to play basketball." She just looked at me unbelievingly. I told her I wasn’t always a fat old lady.
