Not Laid Off

We had a meeting yesterday & found out that none of our area (finance) had any layoffs. With the weeks I’ve been having, I was a teensy bit disappointed. Later, we had a 5:00 meeting that stretched to 6:15 to go over a project that was supposed to go out Wednesday am. (This project, which is a monthly thing, has been a source of huge frustration to me especially the last couple of months). Anyway, when I came in to that 5:00 meeting the CFO was already sitting there, and she said that one of my coworkers working on this same project had already volunteered to be one of the 17,000 and she told him no, and I couldn’t be either. It must have been showing on my face that I was sick of this whole thing. (17,000 was the number of worldwide layoffs from our corporate parent.)

My mom had to have a breast biopsy done on Monday. She found out yesterday that the results were benign. She explained a little bit how they did it (she said make sure you never have to have one done because it was very painful and uncomfortable, not so much the big needle in the breast but how she had to lay on her stomach on a table with her boob hanging through a hole in the table for 45 minutes). Also, I thought was interesting, they mark where they took the biopsy from with a little bit of titanium so if it were malignant they could find the exact spot they took the biopsy from. The titanium will stay in her forever.

Anyway, she was worried because she’s already been through cancer once. I’m glad everything was fine.

Yesterday was Rebecca’s birthday. She’s 6 now. We’re having a party for her friends on Saturday. Yesterday she opened presents from my mom. She got an outfit, two books and a necklace. I gave her a $20 Target gift card (she was super excited about her "credit card"). Then she got a $10 check from my brother in the mail yesterday. Oh and David’s mom gave her some bath things yesterday too. We’re going tomorrow to get her a new bike.

We had lost a school library book that was due two weeks ago and I found it this morning. That is a relief, I didn’t want to pay $15 for it.

I’m leaving work early to take the girls to the dentist. We are going to have to pin down what we are going to do about Rebecca’s teeth/jaw due to her thumb-sucking. The shape of her face is changing noticably. Nothing we have tried has made her stop sucking her thumb. I wonder if she loses one of her front teeth if she will stop sucking her thumb? I know my sister sucked her thumb til she was in 6th grade at least and David said he did too (so I guess missing teeth didn’t stop them). At her last dentist appointment he said there was some kind of implant he could put in that would make her stop sucking it. David took them to that appointment so I’m not sure I have all the details, I’m going to find out today. I have plenty of money in my health care savings account this year that we’ll need to use up so we might as well do what we need to do.

I’m off tomorrow to study. David however told his mom that I would watch Benjamin Friday, since he had her watch him Tuesday (not one of her normal days). When he told me he was doing that, I thought he meant he was trading LAST Friday for Tuesday, because I kept all the kids last Friday (also a supposed study day for me). Well that turned into a fight because David turns it around to "don’t you want to keep Ben." I said what about Tuesday, when he didn’t want to keep Ben? He said that was different. Of course. It’s always different when it’s him. I told him whatever his opinion was, it is a fact that if we are paying his mom to watch Benjamin Mon, Wed and Friday then I can damn well take off on a Friday and expect her to watch Benjamin. And if he doesn’t agree, he should talk to me about it instead of changing plans around behind my back.

The sad thing is, I was going to offer to MIL that I would keep Benjamin on Friday since I’ve been picking them up so late on Mon and Wed. But before I said anything, she said David said I was keeping Ben on Friday which just pissed me off. So I’m not upset about watching Ben, I was going to offer that anyway, I’m just pissed that David thinks that if I’m off work, I should have the kids. Despite that I’m not taking a vacation day from work, I am taking study time at home to study as part of my job. I don’t think my boss thinks I’m going to have kids at home with me.

OMG, the CFO just poked her head in my office and said "Having a better day today?" Uh, I don’t want her to see me as this wuss who has bad days! Now I will have to go do something super productive and efficient and seem happy and energetic while doing it!

I’m glad everything came back okay with your mom. I agree, if you are paying his mom then you should have a choice to take Benjamin when you are not at work. Happy birthday to Rebecca!

that is good news about your Mom and your job. Hay JUST stopped sucking her thumb over the past year and she is 8. I never put a lot of pressure on her about it and honestly it just hit me one day that I hadnt seen her do it in awhile. RYN: You are right, he is a Staff Accountant now, and has done accounting for many years, but he HATES it. This would be a big change. I am just tryingto “go with the flow”. 🙂
